LSG Liberator Elite – Inspired by Lord_S_Gray’s Fanfiction Story

Hello Everybody and welcome to today’s post. Well, I survived last week’s security alert with the mystery object being revealed to be a Transmat beaming device for transporting between a ship and a planet’s surface. As I left you last week something was teleporting through but it seems to be a very slow process…it’s like watching a 3D printer operating! But today I return to the fantastic fanfiction stories of my friend Lord_S_Gray and the spaceship I designed for it named the Liberator. The TIE Liberator is a multi role combat transport vehicle capable of being a fighter craft, a small transporter ship or even a private shuttle. But this new variant I am showing you today was put to a very unique use in LSG’s story, that of a Prison Breaker….or “Liberator” ship. The vessel has been upgraded from it’s basic model with a full armament package including the basic laser cannons but also some special equipment. It also has a new paintjob, so here is Gallery One for you to enjoy….

This Liberator has a snazzy new red “Elite” style paint scheme in scarlet and black which really sets off the carbon fibre look solar panels on the triple wing assemblies. You can see the same laser cannon installations in the wingtips along with the point defence laser turret on the dorsal wing stanchion. These are standard for the fighter version but look closely and you can see warheads of some special missiles stored in the lower wing struts and on the underbelly of the fuselage. This is the “Prison Break Package”. In LSG’s story there is an ongoing conflict and some characters were imprisoned however their friends decided to break them out of their captivity. The ship was flown to the prison complex (under a stealth shield I added) and the missiles were utilised to blow out the perimeter walls, cell blocks and guard towers to allow the Liberator to land in the grounds allowing the prisoners to clamber aboard after exiting the hole in the walls. OK onto Gallery Two for some more pictures…

These pictures highlight the weapons package for the Prison Break mission and you can clearly see the missiles in the lower wing stanchions. These two missiles are the “air to ground” missiles similar to real earth Bunker Buster weapons used to breach the walls and buildings, whilst there is a rack of multipurpose air to ground and air to air missiles on the underbelly. The Bunker Busters can be configured to blow up reinforced walls or set to a lower power setting to breach prison walls (without injuring the escapees behind the wall). The multipurpose missiles are used for defence in air to air combat as the ship (hopefully) makes it’s escape. They can target fighters and even have the stopping power to cripple frigates or cruisers if they are deployed by the enemy to stop you leaving. The final picture shows the dorsal laser turret that is also used to defend the ship while it is on the ground awaiting the escapees boarding.

These last two pictures show the Liberator in action having just blasted a hole in the walls and awaiting the escapees. In LSG’s story this ship was so successful that it gained a reputation and a nickname, “Chain Breaker” as the ship broke the escapees from their “chains of captivity”. To denote this there is an emblem on the ship’s hull of a length of chain with a broken link.

Talking of links here is a link to the Ultrasabers owners forum page where you can read Lord_S_Gray’s story (and others) http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=48101.0 And with that I think I may be close to the end of this post and will need to “getaway” myself. But first as ever my closing thanks and teasers.

Thank you all so much for checking the Liberator Elite and I hope you really enjoyed it. Also thank you for your unending support of me and my site, it makes such a difference and motivates me when you comment or leave a like or two. I hope you will return for future posts as I still have more in store including the conclusion to my “mystery transmat” story with a visit by some special guests (one invited and the others not so much!). So thanks to all, newcomers and regular visitors…Till next time…..

LSG’s TIE Liberator – Inspired by Lord_S_Gray’s Fanfic Stories.

Hello Everybody and welcome to another post. Today we stay firmly in the Star Wars universe albeit from a slightly different point of view. I will be showcasing a new starship design I was asked to create by my friend Lord_S_Gray who writes fantastic fanfiction stories (One of which you can read by following this link: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=48561.0). I have mentioned LSG before with his story about the Aethens and the “Artemis” and “Milaea” sabers I created to accompany it. LSG writes such rich stories and when asking for my assistance with a saber, he normally gives me a good brief of what he is looking for. However this time he asked for a spaceship not a saber and he gave me free license on it’s design. He did say he was impressed by my TIE Defender (https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2023/03/04/tie-defender-elite-skerris-a-recreation-of-the-galactic-empires-new-tie-fighter/ ) model so I wondered how I could use the Defender as a base for the new ship. The wing panels were distinctive so I wanted to use them, but I couldn’t just use them as they were so I did this…

I inverted the wing panels so that they seemed to wrap around the ship. This still gave the ship a distinct trifecta look but the way the wings folded meant I didn’t have to build any landing gear as the ship rests on it’s lower S-Foils (<wings). I added miniature laser turrets too which I took from my Star Destroyer I built a few years ago and if you look at the last image you might be able to tell this ship has an interior! I was asked to build this ship early last year but LSG hasn’t posted his story yet to feature this craft so this is the earliest model I have made with an interior. So I better show you the inside too, onto Gallery Two…

The ship has a fairly big passenger/cargo hold so it can operate as a Multi-Role Combat craft, performing many different mission types. The ship in LSG’s story was used by a group that specialised in rescuing prisoners of war and so was named the “Liberator” and features a “fractured chain” logo on the sides of the fuselage to represent freed captives. Back inside and further forward you enter the cockpit, and here are two crew seats and a basic cockpit dashboard with controls printed on. I built this in the same way Flight Simulator game aircraft are modelled. Having built a Star Destroyer I again was curious to see how this ship would look in the hangar bay so I rendered a few pictures of it with a few friends in the hangar and departing for a mission…Gallery Three!

I think this ship works nicely and looks good flying in formation! Anyhoo…I think I have time this week to just let you know I have managed to watch the first THREE episodes of the new season three of The Bad Batch! The first episode was a bit of a slow burner but episodes 2 and 3 are starting to pick up the action with Hunter and Wrecker beginning their mission to rescue Omega…and some dark secrets and projects are coming to light. According to rumours this final third season should link all the different parts of Star Wars together to fully explain the mysteries, we will see.

Finally, I have some more news, in that I managed to snag another couple of new foam dart blasters from a company called X-Shot. They are a pair of pistols and look really cool as they have graphics printed into the plastic itself so they won’t wear off like paint or decals. Hopefully I will get some pictures of them to share with you in an upcoming post. Meanwhile I am now at the end of this post and I need to thank LSG for challenging me to design objects for his stories and give my thanks to you, my viewers/readers/followers. As ever all your fantastic support is appreciated and all your comments and likes keep me motivated to work on new stuff such as the Liberator. And rest assured I have much more yet to post so I hope you will return to check that content out too. So whether a regular or a newcomer, thanks so much and Till next time…..

“Artemis – Milaea” Inspired by Lord_S_Gray’s “Remnants of the Aether” Fanfiction. And more weird and windy roads!

Hello Everybody and welcome to another trip into the part of the galaxy created by my friend Lord_S_Gray in his fanfiction story, “Remnants of the Aether”. As I mentioned last week LSG wrote a magnificently crafted story based on his “Aetherans” characters – a race that had differing mystical powers to that of the Jedi and Sith but equally as amazing. The story tells of the aftermath of a war and the winning survivors’ attempts to rebuild their race and civilisation behind the cloak of secrecy but unfortunately like most good plans it was to face potential failure as not all of their enemies perished. I won’t tell the whole story as it is an epic and far to big to cover in these two posts but I’ll leave a link so you can check the story out. It is hosted on the fan forum owned by the custom lightsaber manufacturer Ultrasabers known as Saberforum.com. The link to the story is here: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=44181.0 .

This saber is the second that LSG requested I design for two central characters, Aresaea and Milaea. I showcased Aresaea’s hilt last week and this week it is Milaea’s turn to receive a saber, this is Artemis – Milaea …

These images show the build process for the hilt in the Blender 3D workspace. The first pics shows the hilt in an unfinished form without textures or graphics applied (a bit like the clay prototype sculptures car manufacturers make). The second image shows an accent part LSG asked me to add and it is a Triquetra symbol, similar to a Celtic knot but is the symbol for the Aetheran race (you will see this symbol in a different light in the next gallery). LSG also asked that this hilt be almost the inverse of Aresaea’s hilt -so a mainly silver hilt with black detailing but with a “red tinge” to the silver. I tried this but the saber just looked like a pink blush colour so I took some “designer’s license” and made a slight change. I remembered that I had used a technique on another saber to create a texture that faded from one colour into a second colour (I think this is known as an Hombre fade in fashion) so I took red and black and applied the fade which resulted in the colour scheme you see. Now this texture isn’t “flat” or static it actually reacts with differing lighting settings so I had best show you the hilt in it’s Glamour Shots…

Hopefully you can see that the colour fade actually grows or shrinks as you look at the hilt from different angles. This is because the texture dynamically reacts to the lighting in the background environment and reflects those values altering the shades of colour. You can also see the Triquetra symbol on the emitter shining with the same colour as the blade giving a “cut-out” windowed effect. This hilt features a few silver bands that help define the curves of this saber as LSG asked that it was ‘flowing and smooth in hilt style but also quite feminine’. I hopefully nailed that request…I think I did.

And with that I think it’s time I brought you part two of my exploits on a very winding road with some weird stuff around it, it’s Travelogue time.

Today’s tale comes from the Central Otago region of New Zealand’s south island and my Kiwi Cousin wanted to drive us to the famous lake at Wanaka, which has a Willow tree growing in it. The tree is a famous and popular photography location but on this day as you can see from photo one, the weather was against us big time! The rain was falling almost horizontally and solid – it was so heavy we had to look to the roadside and watch the white line markings to maintain our place on the tarmac. However we decided to travel a bit further to a sheltered indoor attraction but before we got there the weather dried a little and we saw…a fence covered with women’s bras! Now this fence was first adorned with bras sometime between Christmas of 1998 and New Year’s 1999 and became a controversial issue and attraction in equal measures. Some folks said it was an eyesore and distraction to motorists (and insult to visiting tourists) whilst other folks loved it. Numerous times the fence was cleared only for the bras to be replaced and several legal attempts were made and failed until finally a local tour guide and her partner decided to move the bra fence and place it on their property about 100m from it’s original position. So the fence survived and in fact raises money for Breast Cancer Awareness month and the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, as people make donations. Even the local gin distillery that is next door produces a “Pink Gin” from which it donates $5 from each sale to the cause. The fence can be found on the Cardrona Valley Road but we had to keep driving till we got to Wanaka’s Puzzling World! The last picture shows this unique building, in which none of it’s architecture lines up properly and inside is the largest collection of puzzles, optical illusions and well weird stuff! Take a look at this…when in New Zealand do as the New Zealanders do….

It looks as if I have been painted into a picture of an ancient Roman toilet block – but it is just one of many “Illusion rooms” at Puzzling World. The effect is a carefully painted image on the wall and floor – and in person is quite disorientating at first but you soon adjust and it feels like you are in a Star Trek holodeck! There are a collection of toilet seats too, along with a “Shrinking Room” where a person can stand in the left hand of the space then walk out through a door and re-enter a second door on the right but you appear MUCH taller! Then you walk back across to the first door inside the space but as you move you appear to shrink as you walk back across! Truly weird but if you want more info about this wacky world then check out their website found here: https://www.puzzlingworld.co.nz/

And with that conundrum concluded I will have to end this post as the puzzle of time has beaten me again. I hope you’ve enjoyed Lord_S_Gray’s fanfiction creation (and thanks to everyone who checked his story out on Saberforum!) and this week’s wacky weird day in Wanaka. Thank you so much for the support you show me and this site, it is really appreciated. Please call back for much more in the way of saber designs, some spaceship builds and more tales. Till next time….

“Artemis” Saber – Inspired by Lord_S_Gray’s Fan-Fiction “Remnants of the Aether”. And a trip round South Otago

Hello Everybody, welcome to today’s post where I take you to the world of Star Wars themed fan-fiction. A very good friend of mine named Lord_S_Gray (aka LSG), writes and posts fantastic fan-fiction stories based on the Star Wars universe on the Ultrasabers’ fan forum I frequent. His stories feature differing cultures and star systems than the usual Star Wars galaxy but are interconnected. He also weaves fabulous storytelling and scene-building that make his stories EPICS. Well, one day LSG having been a big supporter of my designing asked me if I would do him a favour and create some sabers for a couple of central characters in his story, “Remnant’s of the Aether”, a story about an ancient war which the Jedi Order believed they had brought to an end…however I’ll post LSG’s introduction here for you to read…

There were survivors from one of the factions involved in the conflict and fuelled/assisted by other mystical powers, the survivors attempt to rebuild their civilization hidden from view, but as you have read there were other “Remnants” dotted around the galaxy. So LSG asked me to create two hilts and I’m about to show you the first of them which belongs to the character named Aresaea. He asked that the hilt be feminine, mainly black with silver and a purple blade but the rest of the design was up to me and my instincts. This is the hilt I came up with….

I had just started to get used to creating curved sweeping shaped parts and I thought a curvy design with a distinct choke point (a Choke Point is the section of a handgrip that narrows allowing for a better grip) would suit the character Aresaea – who LSG described as visually similar to the actress Summer Glau of Terminator, Serenity and Firefly fame. I used a technique to create a graduated fade between the black hilt and silver accents as asked for. LSG also had some lettering and symbols that the Aethans used in his story and asked if I could have an etching or rune stone style accent that spelt the name “Artemis” – as tribute to their war goddesses. This I achieved by using a texture with the symbols /lettering cut and pasted into position as there isn’t a Windows TrueType font like it! Finally I added a decorative pommel cap of my own design.

As I mentioned LSG’s story (and subsequent chapters) are epic and take up several pages of the forum – but are well worth a read, so if you’d like to take in a Star Wars story from a different point of view then you can read it by clicking the link to his story pages on Saberforum .com. Remnants of the Aether can be read here: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=44181.0.

Now I think it’s time to go back down to New Zealand for this week’s travelogue as I discovered a very pleasant suprise….

The next leg of my trip entailed exploring the South Otago area of the south island around Queenstown, Arrowtown, Hayes Lake and the small village of Clyde. We ventured out of Queenstown and through Frankton then on to the site named Arrowtown. Located at the confluence of the Arrow River and Bush Creek, Arrow town was a famous township as it was one of the locations where a “Gold Rush” took place around 1862. The town flourished and it became a centre for gold and gem jewellery making. It attracted a large group of Chinese miners to the area, who then ventured outward in hopes of finding the gold. Sadly this resulted in the community being depleted in Arrowtown and it struggled to survive but the town’s “solution” was to import migrant Chinese labour – a process that was handled badly. Today though, Arrowtown is a tourist attraction with many boutique and jewellery shops along with wine bars and art galleries. It also boasts some stunning plant and tree life too. Unfortunately it was a little bit wet the day I was there so the nature didn’t look too good as everything was drenched.

We left Arrowtown and got back onto the state highway to head further east down past the Kewarau Gorge, somewhere you may have heard of as it is the birthplace of the extreme sport of Bungee Jumping! As you drive past you can see the bridge where the first adrenaline junkies threw themselves off the side of the structure. BUT before you got to Kewarau you had get out of Arrowtown and go through Arrow Junction. It is at this junction that another road leads off and has more stunning views of the area….however here is a look at the map….

You can see State Highway 6 snake across the map and leading off from Arrow Junction is a white road? This is the Crown Range Rd and boy did it have a surprise…it was very steep and very twisting with several haipin bends. Plus it was slightly wet but check out what I sensed even before I saw it…

We were driving along that very difficult and twisting piece of road and I sensed a presence, then a line of flags appeared…and look what flag was there.. the Jedi Order flag! Hung right next to a Welsh flag was the symbol for the Jedi Order. I felt that it was there before I even saw it because I asked my Kiwi Cousin to slow down as I thought there was something to see. I couldn’t believe it…I had travelled over 19,000km to one of the most isolated countries in the world and found other Jedi had been there!

Something else I can’t quite believe is that we’ve run out of time again sadly. I hope you enjoyed today’s offering. I also hope you have a look at Lord_S_Gray’s fantastic writing (plus he does illustrations too) and be sure to call back here next week to see the second hilt he commissioned. Thank you so much for visiting today and I need to say thank you to one special visitor who gave my site it’s 50,000th view!! All your support is much appreciated. Till next time….

“Vornyx” – A new breed of Starfighter (Lord_S_Gray and FT)

Hello everybody hope you’re all doing well. As promised I have another Lord_S_Gray collaboration in the shape of a new starfighter to accompany his Star Destroyer I posted last week. Click here to check it out > https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2020/08/29/destroyer-a-new-breed-of-star-destroyer-by-lsg-and-for-tyeth/ . The Aetherean battleship needed some fighter escort protection and LSG asked if I could muster up a design based on his description. I accepted the request as I figured it would be fun to build a fighter that had a similar look to it’s mothership and I have sorta caught the shipbuilding bug. I got LSG to send me a design brief and a sketch or two and here was his initial idea…

I am an avid aviation fan having attended many airshows of your military and civilian earth planes and I had an idea as soon as I saw this shape and the idea was named “Have Blue”. Have Blue was the codename that the aircraft manufacturer Lockheed gave to the world famous Stealth Fighter or F-117. And as you may know the F-117 has a very distinct shape and outline which almost mirrors LSG’s diagram! Here is a schematic courtesy of Wikipedia…

This plane looks like it came from outer space (or a galaxy far…far away!) and if you “clip” the wings a little you can see the “Diamond” shape from LSG’s sketch. So I went with the idea of making a Stealth Starfighter. Here are a few pics…

This was the design I came up with. It appears slightly shorter than the sketch but that is a bit of an optical illusion. The design however does have the Maser (Aetherean technology equivalent to a laser) cannons on the leading edge of the fuselage and it has twin self defense turrets on the upper rear surface panels. I did have a version with a turret on the underside but the 3D model file was lost in one of my laptop glitches. However, the underside of this fighter still has some interesting features I’ll show later. The fuselage and body panels were again achieved by using the “Discombobulator” function but I turned the settings down so I didn’t have multiple layers of panels, just one or two layers to hint at the structure. This ship is meant to be sleek and any parts that stick out would cause it to be visible to sensor sweeps, so I tucked as much of the details away. This leads me to the underbelly and the “hidden” features….

In these images you can clearly see the “stretched diamond” shape of the fighter along with two retractable landing gear skids and two very distinct launch tube channels for the homing missiles! Yes this ship is packing serious offensive weapons as well as the defensive turrets. I modelled a basic “Space to Space” missile similar to the famous Sidewinder missiles used by earth aircraft. You can make out the control fins and the purple “seeker sensor” in the nose cones. The red chevrons are electro magnetic propulsors to help launch the missiles (a bit like the steam catapults on aircraft carriers).

I showed LSG my initial build and after a few exchanges this was the final model and it was time to take this fighter out and put it through it’s paces. Here are a couple of galleries showing the ship from different angles and environments during test flights…

The ship handled well in the atmosphere of a planet and flew well interstellar around regular space. It even flew nicely in a nebula or two! But as the Star Destroyer last week had Hyperdrive then I felt this Starfighter needed to keep up so I installed a Hyperdrive unit to this ship too….looks pretty in the wormhole….

The Vornyx Fighter passed it’s test and trial flights with flying colours I’m pleased to say and LSG approved. This was fun to build and there is still room for me to make improvements – so I will be making some updates. Whilst photographing the Vornyx and Destroyer I discovered that while I concentrated on how it looked outside….they actually looked interesting inside! So one of the updates will be a cockpit for the Vornyx with control panels and for the Destroyer I will add some models of military equipment inside it’s hull. Here is a slideshow of a mix of pictures including two “interior” shots that will get updated….

Oh yes! I forgot to mention this fighter has gone into production and I have a Squadron of Vornyx ships! (Sorry I haven’t worked out a pluralised version of the name yet😁). And with that I am just about ready to fly home to my Destroyer knowing LSG has a very capable fighter to defend his fleet. Thanks Lord_S_Gray for allowing me to build this for you.

Thank you so much for checking this new Interceptor out and for all the fantastic support over the past four years (I passed my 4 year Blogaversary earlier this week). You are all very much appreciated whether a first time visitor or one the regular crowd, thank you. I hope you will return to see future posts as I have a few more Star Wars Rebels inspired hilts and I have a rather nice arrow design from Guardians of the Galaxy! Till next time….

“Destroyer” A new breed of Star Destroyer by LSG and For Tyeth

Hello Everybody (just) and welcome to something a bit different. Again I am having issues and have had to borrow a laptop to produce this post. My troublesome machine has finally died after suffering an update from Microsoft that caused the hard drive to heat up and as a result triggered the cooling fan – destroying the fan. But….I have some good news, I saved a few things to the cloud including this new starship design!

A good friend of mine, Lord_S_Gray (I’ll refer to him as LSG from now on) from the Ultrasabers’ forum asked me to help with his fanfiction story he was writing and come up with a design (and some pictures) for a new Star Destroyer. (You can read his story here: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=44181.0) The ship was for a race known as the Aethereans and LSG sent me a brief and a diagram of roughly what he wanted. The drawing looked like this!…

As hard as LSG might have worked to give me these details, there wasn’t a lot to go on and as this was the first “large scale” build (or ship) I had built I thought I was in trouble. However LSG did say that I should use my initiative and if something didn’t work or sit right then I could do what I felt fit better. One of the my first efforts looked like this….

I built the model with a Forecastle type structure and Bridge section, whilst adding a few “lighted windows”. But my favourite part was actually the “plating” on the hull. I accomplished this using the “Discombobulator” feature built into Blender, which Neil from https://makeroommakeroom.wordpress.com/ introduced me to – thanks Neil it worked a treat here. However this ship wasn’t quite how LSG envisaged and asked if I could redesign the superstructure and remove the Bridge “bow tie”. He also asked if I could add a plethora of gun turrets. So I went back to work. I found a picture of the type of rifle that was used in the time and location where LSG’s story is set and thought “I could scale this blaster up and use four of them in a turret!” So this is what I came up with…

I came up with a basic turret with just enough details to make it interesting when viewed close up but not too complex so I could clone it and use many iterations of it in various places on the main model. My headaches really started with redesigning the superstructure. To make things easier on my old laptop I merged parts together so there was less individual bits to be processed when I moved the model for photos etc. The problem? I had to dismantle this solid block and rebuild it without the upper decks and bridge. There was a silver lining though because as a result of reshaping the hull I found places where I could mount the turrets and I incorporated TWO storage hangar bays and a “Launching Bay” in the belly of the ship. Anyhoo here is a gallery of shots from various angles around the rebuilt destroyer…

I found a couple of nice nesting locations to put two turrets to defend the aft quarters of the ship and had two rows of turrets running from bow to stern which provides a wall of firepower along each side of the ship. These were also mirrored on the lower surfaces of the hull too. This thing is armed to the teeth! You will also see the “Launch Bay” and launch tube on the underside of the ship illuminated by the red chevrons.

Now this ship needed to be trialled in various conditions and locations so I took it for a spin around the galaxy and as always had some photos taken…here’s a few more snapshots…

The ship seemed to handle well and all the lights lit up so now I wanted to stretch the legs of this new Destroyer…it would be fairly ulseless if this ship couldn’t get to trouble spots quickly so we need HYPERDRIVE! Check these pics out!…..

Wow this thing can shift…I did the Kessel Run in 11.9 Parsecs! That’s faster than the Falcon! You will have seen two of these pictures showing the storage hangars and a view from the Launch Bay and tunnel…well that would mean this ship must carry smaller ships right? You are correct and I hope to post that fighter in next week’s post. This just about wraps up this post as I am struggling with tech once more, but I have some GREAT news that has occurred this week.

My new boots have arrived from the USA and I am absolutely gobsmacked (English slang for totally amazed and lost for words) at how gorgeous these things are! They arrived bang on time as estimated and what an experience when I opened them up and tried them on for the first time. They fit like a second skin – not surprising considering all the measurements I had to send in – at one point I thought they were gonna ask for my hat size too! Anyway I hope to do a full review along with my costume but here is a sneak peek of them.

These boots are outstanding and that new Jedi Boot Leather smell…Oooh! But I can’t stop and enjoy the scents I have to finish now but I’d like to thank my friend Lord_S_Gray for challenging me to build this starship – it took some to-ing and fro-ing but I think it turned out well. I also have to thank you my readers/viewers as I recently passed my fourth year Blogaversary and the 22,000 views milestone. So thanks for all the support over the years it is much appreciated and keeps me posting! I hope you will call back again and see the Vornyx Fighter to accompany this Destroyer in next week’s post. Till next time…..
