“The Knight” Inspired by Gotham’s Greatest

Hello Everybody, today after the “Frightener” and things that go bump in the night I bring you a hero to save you from the darkness, a man who is bats! Yes today I bring a design inspired by Gotham City’s Batman. Whilst modelling the “High Republic” saber I noticed something about the shroud that reminded me of the Caped Crusader and that was how the blade when viewed from below looking upward I could almost make out the shape of Batman’s cowl.

If you turn you head to the side you can probably just about see the “shape of a head” and what appears to be a pair of ears pointing up just like Bruce Wayne’s headwear has! This prompted me to modify the “High Republic Saber” into a new Batman hilt. Now I say new Batman saber because a looong time ago I designed a saber for my friend Lady Revan from the lightsaber forum, who wrote a fantastic Star Wars story and I based the hilt on one of her characters, Alex Khaar. The hilt had a a long bayonet like steel blade as well as the plasma one and on the other end of the hilt it’s pommel looked like Obi-Wan Kenobi’s first saber. Well another friend named BatMike90 told me he was a Batman fan so I gave Lady Revan’s hilt a repaint which looked like this…

I thought this worked quite well, but you know me I always want to do better. I have to be fair however as this was an early Blender built hilt and I didn’t know all the tricks of 3D modelling then. Fast forward a couple of years and I can now bring you a totally bespoke Batman hilt with a special plinth…Here are the Batty Beauty Shots…

The Knight is a recoloured and streamlined “High Republic Saber” but this one has a snazzy bat logo base! This plinth was made using the invaluable Extrude function where I upload a bat logo and instruct Blender to thicken the image to form a 3 dimensional object. I then multiplied it a few times to form the cradle uprights. All the bat shapes were bevelled giving the parts an almost “Batarang” sharp edge (it’s not really sharp but the silver highlight on the edges emphasises the illusion). Ok I think it’s time for some detail shots…

The activation button has a bat logo embellishment just below it and of course the pommel needed some decoration. So I removed the mesh grill from the original design and placed another Bat into the pommel opening, all lined in silver.

Again I kinda liked this hilt and decided to mess around and try out a bit of art so to round out this presentation I have two “posters” I knocked up.

I couldn’t help but put the hilt “in” the Batcave to see how it looked and the second image is just a quick transparency overlay on a moody looking Batman.

That just about wraps up this offering but first I need to acknowledge that Batman and his alter-ego Bruce Wayne were created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger back in 1939. He first appeared in Detective Comics #27 dated May 1939.

I also have to acknowledge you, my viewers/readers and say a big thank you for visiting today and checking out “The Knight” and helping support me and my site. You are all very much appreciated, whether you are a here for the first time or if you are one of my regulars, If you like what you have seen then please leave a like, comment or subscribe if you haven’t already – I’d be happy to enjoy your company again. I still have a lot more to show everyone including some Star Wars Resistance inspired sabers so…Till next time….

Supermobile Saber – Inspired by Corgi Toys Die Cast Model

Hello Everybody…..Is it a bird?….Is it a plane?…..No it’s a new saber! Yes as you might have guessed from the image and quote we are visiting the realm of Superheroes and in particular….Superman! This is another instalment in my on-going collaboration with TheVintageToyAdvertiser and focuses on the Corgi toy range of the 1980’s and the spaceship/aeroplane vehicle, the Supermobile. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and drawn by artist Joel Shuster way back in the 1930’s (Superman was originally going to be a vagrant man who had an experimental drug tested on him which gave him superpowers), but the first real appearance of a Superman we recognise today came back in 1938 in Action Comics #1 published by Detective Comics (later known as the famous DC Comics of today). Fast forward a few decades and many TV shows, films and comic books and we come to the 1980’s where superheroes all had gadgets and gizmos. Batman had his Bat Plane, helicopter and boat and so Superman was given the Supermobile!

Superman Corgi 1980 TVTA

And this is my attempt to build a saber based on that vehicle and Corgi toy. It was quite a tough build initially but after viewing a YouTube video by Andrew Pearce of BlenderGuru fame I learnt how to make smooth aerodynamic shapes more easily. Here are a few work in progress pictures….

This hilt originally started off as a cube! But by stretching, pushing and pulling I shaped the cube into a rough aeroplane shape, however it was by far looking aerodynamic. After watching the video I mentioned I was able to drag the wireframe mesh into a nice smooth profile. In the picture you can see the orange lines – these can be selected and moved around the virtual space to form the model, and by working front to back I created the sweeping curve (and using the mirror function meant both halves of the ship were identical!). I think it looks a little bit like the toy…

Close up of the Corgi Toy Supermobile.

I have made a few concessions, in that I have stretched the model so it can be used as a saber handle but I have the three winglets, the big exhaust nozzle, the sweeping canopy and even the “S” logos. It is however looking a bit grey…where are the famous blue and red colours? Well here are a few “Glamour Shots” with the paint scheme added…

Again a few changes were made so it wasn’t just an exercise in copying the original toy. I darkened the blue slightly to better reflect the colours seen on Superman in recent blockbuster movie outings and this Supermobile doesn’t have Superman sat in the cockpit. This version has a Kryptonian crystal in the cockpit as a crystal chamber to power the saber! (Don’t worry Superman won’t be affected by the Kryptonite, the cockpit is lead lined!). To make the model useable as a lightsaber handle I had to remove the two “Superman Fist” missile launchers but fear not, this model still packs a punch and as a bonus it has it’s own display stand…

And yes, there are the missile launchers! You didn’t think I would leave out such a distinct feature as those did you? The launchers act as part of the cradle to rest the saber on and feature scratches and scrapes on the fists to make them look used!

I think that just about wraps up this design, I hope you like it…it is different and similar at the same time. But before I put my cape on and fly off in my Jedi Interceptor, I need to say a big thank you to TVTA for the challenge once again and a BIG thanks to all of you my followers and viewers, As always you are appreciated and keep me designing and posting. I still have more hilts to come including a Darth Vader replica, a hilt for Vader’s apprentice, a few for a Playboy Billionaire Superhero with a suit of armour and Oh yes…”It’s cold outside, there’s no kind of atmosphere, I’m all alone more or less….” <This song lyric is a clue to another upcoming hilt. I hope you will return to check all of them out in future posts. Till next time…..

Aquaman Bend Lightsaber – FT Blender Version 2

Hello Everybody, wow what a week I have had! I have recently had a bumper day of views with one visitor contributing 169 views! So if you are Canadian and had a good look around my site, thank you very much! Back to today’s post and I return to the underwater world of Aquaman. I have been hinting at this hilt for a few weeks now and as I posted Bumblebot last week I felt it time to show you my hilt inspired by Aquaman. This hilt might look slightly damaged (bent) but trust me it isn’t this is Aquaman Bend….

This watery weapon was created at the same time as my Black Panther themed hilt and I thought that both films had a king of their domain so wondered how to make the Panther’s Claw V2 Saber work for Aquaman. The answer lies in a new modifier tool which BENDS the object that it is applied to. It is this tool which enabled me to give the hilt it’s signature curved shape. Curved sabers became popular in the Star Wars fandom after Count Dooku wielded a chromed, curved hilt. And the reason I chose to bend this hilt lies with the fantastic images of whales and dolphins that leap out of the water and the arc of their bodies as they exit and then re-enter the water in their dances. The hilt sort of looks like a dolphin so fit with the theme.

I had an awful struggle to get the design to work, as I had to work out how to bend both the inner core and the outer perforated sleeve and get them to match. I worked out I had to bend the inner core by a set amount of degrees then repeat the process on the sleeve after which I had to stretch the sleeve so it was in proportion. Then it was just a matter of rotating the emitter and pommel parts to align. Once I was happy I took a few Glamour Shots (later I reshot the images to add the Glow Effect) so here are a few Glam Shots…

Another neat thing about Blender is that you can add a glossy surface to create a “floor” to display models on and it makes the hilt look as if it is hovering over water. Maybe I’ll learn how to add ripples in future 😀 . And speaking of future I hope you all return to see upcoming posts which will feature designs inspired by a glamorous 1970/80’s detective show(?) and an evil Bio-Technical Corporation plus I have a saber for “The Best Pilot in the Resistance”. In the meantime I need to say a big thank you to everybody who supports and follows my site (including Annlyel and Gigi, I noticed you had subscribed!). Your support is much appreciated and keeps me designing more new hilts. Till next time….

I’ve Inspired Someone! SaberForge? Maybe?

Hello Everybody, what a day it has been! I have had it brought to my attention a concept of mine might have inspired a saber manufacturer ! Yes, as you my followers know, I have been creating “Superhero Themed Sabers” for a looong time, since March 2017 some of which I posted on Saberforge’s now defunct Forum. Well today the big company has decided to launch THEIR “Cerakote Super-Heroes” range of sabers! Now you ask what are “Cerakote Super-Hero” sabers? Well they are lightsabers built by Saberforge and they have a special firearms grade coating on them to make them appear in SuperHero colour schemes…..sound familiar?Assembly MK

The image above shows (from L to R) my “Blinding Flash Saber“, “Aquarian Sea Saber“, “Panther’s Claw“, “Wolverine Themed” and “Stark Lightsaber” and if you click their names you will be taken to each hilt’s post. There are more including hilts for The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Incredible Hulk, you jut need to use the search bar or Tag Cloud on the right hand side of this page>> to find the Tag links! (Click Marvel, DC Comics or Comic Books)

I have acknowledged the Trademarks and Copyrights of Marvel, DC, Disney, Amblin Entertainment, in fact any company that I have taken inspiration from and have invited them to contact me if I have content they want me to remove. I am proud to say that no such request has been made so far….or maybe I’m just not famous enough to be detected! I also credited Saberforge for the use of their “Adaptive Saber Parts – ASP” software to build the base hilts I photo edit.

However I will no longer be able to create designs using this application as it has been updated and my laptop cannot access it due to it’s limited specifications. I will have to concentrate on using good old pencil and paper till I can afford a PC to run 3D modelling. I am also going to have to diversify and try “SOMETHING….NEW!” and have ventured into artwork based on sabers! Something like this…

So sorry to my viewers but my output may be a little different in future. I appreciate all the support and kind comments you gave me, they kept me designing more hilts. I will have to end soon but I do have time to tell you I have a few pictures I have drawn and coloured in coming up in my next post

My days designing Adaptive Saber Parts hilts is over BUT “For Tyeth Editions” will continue in other forms and who knows I may be approached by a Master Sabersmith  who wants to collaborate with me in designing! Thank you all and till next time.

One final thing, here is the link to Saberforge’s collection of hilts so you can take a look at them for yourselves and see what you think (for fairness).

[Saberforge CeraKote Sabers]  <This was a link to their page but it no longer exists – but if you Google “Saberforge Cerakote” you should see some of the hilts they released.

Batmobile Lightsaber – Inspired by the Caped Crusader’s Car

Hello Everybody, and Happy Revenge of the Fifth Day! Now you didn’t think I would miss a post did you? I managed to find a reliable (if slow) connection to upload my data from the shores of a beach on Bal’Demnic! Revenge of the Fifth is the day after May the Fourth and celebrates the Dark Knights and villains of the Star Wars galaxy. But there is another “Dark Knight” and so I combined two franchises to come up with this new design. The other Dark Knight is of course BATMAN and this hilt is inspired by his awesome set of wheels in the movies, the 1989 Michael Keaton Batmobile to be precise. So here is BATMOBILE LIGHTSABER…..

As you can see this hilt means business and shares some of the ruggedness of the real Batmobile. The blade is a bold yellow colour to fit in with the Caped Crusader’s classic colour scheme and projects from an emitter that from “certain points of view” either looks like the air intake of the car, or, the cowl of Batman himself. The emitter also sports a snazzy bat logo in matching colours. The switch section resembles the side pod sections of the vehicle with radiator grills that have the armour plating. This armour plating idea continues along the handgrip which draws us to the pommel. Now the pommel I think is very Batmobile-like with the fins and of course the sound vent which replicates the rocket exhaust jetpipe!

Hopefully this second gallery helps highlight the design cues, and of course the Batman you can see is my friend, The Silent Ghost Reaper! (Click his name to see the pair of sabers I designed for him and learn about his online antics.)

So as always, even when I’m on a weekend break time has run out! I will have to end this post soon and go back to my hotel room but first I’d like to thank you all for visiting the site and supporting me. Whether you are a newcomer or a long time follower you are much appreciated. I have more designs to come so I hope you will return to see them in future posts. Thanks and, till next time!

Blinding Flash Saber- A saber for Barry Allen

Hello Everybody, and right off the bat I want to say I am a bit slow getting this design posted! There are two good reasons, first I had Talon’s Allure Saber – For Allure Cosplay  to display last week (I sometimes get distracted from my schedule if I see something or someone that is great, which inspires me to design a new hilt quickly and post the new one instead). And secondly I have had workmen doing repairs to my workshop all week putting in Fire Sprinklers. It’s hard to concentrate or work with dust, noise and vibrations from all the tools! So I had better get on with this post as fast as I can. And this is a fast saber, as it is designed for D.C. Comics (and TheCW Network’s) Barry Allen, but you will know him as The Flash…and this is my design….Blinding Flash

This saber is sleek, has a matching colour scheme and I think would look rather cool spinning around super fast 😀 The blade is yellow to match the accents found on The Flash’s costume and projects from a forked emitter, also with matching accents. The switch section is a no fuss part for swift activation and control of the blade. The body I really like. Some viewers/readers may recall I created a hilt called Oranje Moed Lichtzwaard – Orange Courage Lightsaber for a Dutch friend of mine and I came up with the idea to paint the spines running down the body in the Dutch national colours. It was at the same time I decided to create this hilt and I painted the spines of this hilt in Blinding Flash yellow. They remind me of the bolts of lightning which struck Barry Allen to give him his superspeed abilities. The pommel has a large bell shaped chamber which might even be capable of producing sonic booms it is that loud!

Again I would have posted this hilt sooner but as mentioned there has been a lot of other stuff that distracted me (such as The Last Jedi for instance) but I hope you liked it (finally). Luckily I still have a few new designs waiting to be unveiled (including a series of hilts for an 80’s action cartoon show) but I think I will post a BIG GREEN saber next as there has been a lot of red on this site recently.

I am drawing to a close on this post sadly (I am out of breath rushing about) but I still want to thank everybody who views this site and supports me. I have noticed folks visiting from Mexico, Peru and Brazil this past week which is fantastic to see. I hope you will all return to see more of my upcoming posts. Till next time.

p.s. And don’t forget you can always leave comments down below!

Aquarian Sea Saber – A Watery Weapon for Aquaman

Hello Everybody, I have one final quick post to bring you before I take a little break. I have been taking a bit more time to look around other blogs and I noticed that there is a film called Justice League (?) and it stars Jason Momoa as a Superhero from D.C. Comics called Aquaman. Well it seems from what I have read that Aquaman is a bit limited in his powers (the most significant is his telepathic ability to talk to water borne creatures!). Some fans even seem to make fun of him, and I saw an episode of Family Guy (IIRC) where they have a joke at his expense. Well I don’t think folks would make fun of him if he owned my latest design, so may I present it here to him and to you, this is Aquarian Sea Saber…

To start this saber is coated in a watery blue/green sheen and is wrapped with a kelp green leather grip. The green matches up with the gold found on Aquaman’s costume (shouldn’t that be his “wetsuit”?  😀 ) If you look closely you will see his golden logo on the emitter and some nice gold accent rings and pommel insert. The blade is also a watery colour to tie in with the theme. But the details don’t stop there, Oh no, look closely at the switch section and the diamond shaped pattern sorta resemble Jason Momoa’s famous tattoos!

Now I’m posting this at Christmas time as I felt Aquaman needed cheering up with a present and all the TV channels start putting on the big Superhero Blockbuster movies like “Justice League” and “Batman vs Superman” to entertain us all so it seemed a good time. And now a certain company is even getting in on the Super Hero bandwagon and have posted an image of their “Super Hero Inspired” series of coated hilts. HOWEVER, unlike my collection they forgot to include the likes of Green Lantern, Spiderman and Green Goblin, Psylocke, Wonder Woman, Wolverine, Laura Kinney X-23, Catwoman…BLACK PANTHER!!….(Whew! did I miss any? Yes Guardians of the Galaxy!) but don’t worry you can see all my hilts here on FTSabersite, for original and best designs!

Ok I am getting near to the end of this post and I think I might post one last entry before having  a little break (I have posted 161 designs this past year!) But first I’d like to thank you, my visitors and followers for your amazing support I still have more designs to bring to you in the new year so please do call back.  Till next time.

Cat’s Claw Lightsaber – A Saber for Selina Kyle

Hello Everybody, today I have a design that is inspired by a famous female comic book villain, who later became an anti-heroine. The character was created way back in 1940 (blimey, that’s older than me!) by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. She was the on-off romantic interest for the saviour and Dark Knight of Gotham City, Batman. I am talking about Selina Kyle or her alter ego…Catwoman!

Catwoman has been a favourite since 1940 (though the character had a rough time during the 50’s due to issues concerning the “Comic Code” rules) and has not only been in comics but appeared on TV and in movies. Famous actresses such as the legends, Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether and Julie Newmar portrayed her in the classic 60’s Batman series with Burt Ward and the late great Adam West. On the big screen Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and most recently Anne Hathaway have taken the role of the feline femme fatale. So enough of my rambling, may I present to you the Cat’s Claw…

This design I feel has the slinky, sultry, feline look associated with our favourite Cat Criminal. The blade is a nice shade of cat’s eye green and projects from an emitter which has it’s own set of whiskers! The switch section reminds me of Catwoman’s waist and gives the saber an hour glass figure look. The body is wrapped in Catwoman’s signature black leather and represents the famous one piece catsuit and mask. To further reinforce that look the hilt is in a gloss black finish. Now I have described nearly all of the saber and I haven’t mentioned the claws yet, well the pommel is the part I chose to recreate those. The pommel is in plain metallic and kind of looks like the sharp metallic nails on the fingers of Catwoman’s gauntlets. I imagine they could do quite a bit of damage. Some of you may be thinking “Hey For, Catwoman uses a Bullwhip, not a saber!” and you would be correct but lightsabers come in different versions and one particular version is a Lightwhip. The Sith lady Lumiya from the now non-canon books and comics used one!

I am nearly out of time for this post and will soon have to bring it to an end. But never fear I still have time to thank all my regular viewers and followers for your support. It is much appreciated. My planned post for today had to change due to a situation outside my control, but hopefully no-one noticed and I will continue as normal with more new stuff in upcoming offerings. Oh yes, I also have Borommakot’s new Zodiac Series hilt up next so please join me for that. Till next time.

Batman Original Lightsaber

I mentioned “Themed Sabers” in my last post of Borommakot’s Martyr Lightsaber. This refers to a topic on the Saberforge forum where members would design sabers based on a particular theme. They ranged from “what if…” concepts, movie crossover designs and even a series of hilts inspired by Wrestlers! At the time members were excited about The Dark Knight film and Batman. I submitted this design (modified from my first) as a possible weapon for Batman to use.

It was described as “Wow that’s Monstrous!” I think that was a compliment to my design but I’ll let you decide..

This was the first time I used an Emitter as a Pommel but you’ll note it isn’t lit yet, I had that idea a little later. Some people who know me and my designs may notice this has a different coloured blade from when I first displayed it. I thought later a yellow blade worked better, but here are two pictures of earlier variants..

So this was my first foray into Themed Saber designs. I went on to design hilts based on sports teams, movies, comic book heroes and a series of sabers dedicated to Wrestling stars (One wrestler was a member of the forum!). I will post more of these designs in upcoming galleries but for now thanks for checking this design out!
