“Super Saiyan Saber” – Another Gaming inspired saber

Hello Everybody, hope you are all well. Today I feel a lot better than the past couple of weeks as my fears over being able to continue designing, posting and the general quality of my output have been allayed. Many people have commented on my Spectre sabers from last week and never even realised the pictures weren’t up to my usual standard – they just commented on the designs themselves…so that was pleasing. So I bring you another video gaming and anime classic in saber form. This time I have a Dragon Ball Z insired version of my Ultrasabers Aeon modified hilt series (so far I have created a GOTG Yondu design https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2020/10/10/yondu-saber-inspired-by-gotgs-yondu-undonta/ and one for Sonic the Hedgehog https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2020/10/31/super-sonic-saber-inspired-by-a-blue-hedgehog/) and it is based on the character of Goku in his “Super Saiyan” mode. I don’t play DBZ so I don’t know the full background/history but I know Goku is the face character of the game and was originally a part human/part simian character with a tail. Gradually over time the tail became less prevalent but Goku’s ability to transform into a super powered muscle bound warrior remained. Oh and his hair changes from black to a very striking spiky yellow style! Enough talk….onto the images…

I will be embedding the images one at a time for now as I am still testing out how to get the best results. I now have to take “Screenshots” of my computer screen as I work on the design then using photo-editing software I crop the unwanted menu bars and Windows from the image. You will see a few tabs at the bottom of the images now and then but I’ll work on erasing those too in future galleries. Onto the next picture…

In the show Dragon Ball Z, Goku is a warrior that was originally sent to Earth to destroy our planet – however when he arrived on our world he was dropped down a mountainside, hitting his head and he forgot his mission. He then battles the forces of evil as various warlords and evil versions of himself land on Earth and attempt to take over the world (sounds like Pinky and the Brain from Animaniacs!). This happens over 7 series of the animated show so there is too much detail to cover in one post so how about another couple of Glamour Shots? Ok….

I based this saber’s colour scheme on Super Saiyan with the spiky yellow hair and there’s no prize for guessing how I incorporated that detail into the hilt. Of course I just repainted the spines around the emitter to match the hairstyle and to show how close I got here is a side-by-side comparison…

The orange and blue are easy to identify – I think I managed to colour match Goku’s Shaolin inspired uniform quite nicely with the saber. The saber is activated by the single switch and emits a brilliant yellow blade. So far I think the images work so here is a close up of that activation switch and emitter to see how the quality fares up…

Thankfully I think the details are still quite clear and the shine and glow effects show well. So I am happier knowing that I can still post to a high level. I am also happier because I may soon be receiving my new Jedi Robe that I have ordered – on Monday it will be 4 weeks since I placed my order so anytime after that and it may drop at my doorstep!

I would also like to say thanks to you all for sticking with me and I hope you enjoyed this post and design. I have many more bespoke original designs for future posts, inspired by pop culture classics and a new set of sabers in the style of Star Wars The High Republic (Disney/Lucasfilm’s new era of Star Wars stories and material). I hope you will all return to check out what I have in store. Whether you are a first time viewer or a regular caller thank you for the support, it means a lot and helped me to work through my tech issues! So MTFBWY…..Till Next Time….

“Super Saiyan Saber” is a For Tyeth Editions design (Copyright of For Tyeth/FTSabersite 2016-2020) inspired by the video game and anime show “Dragon Ball Z”. The saber is a modified version of an Ultrasabers’ Aeon V4. All trademarks and Copyrights belong to their respective owners.

“dROYd” My new little buddy!

Hello Everybody, today I have something to show you I never in a million parsecs ever thought you would see! As regular viewers know I have been having issues with Microsoft Windows 10 and it’s update scheme causing my laptop to crash several times and needing to be re-installed. Well after each crash my laptop refused to boot up and I couldn’t recover my files so when I re-installed Windows it wiped the laptop, Blender models and all….TWICE!…or so I thought!

However, having installed Win 10 for the third time I thought I better check how much of my hard drive had been used and delete any of the old system files that MS don’t delete in the process of loading the software again. They store these “waste” files in a folder named “windows.old” but when I checked my system folder there were THREE folders, “windows.old”…and two others “windows.000” and “windows.001”. Intrigued, I opened these folders and had the shock and surprise of my life….ALL and I mean all of my “lost” files were there in my system folder! All the 3D model files, all the texture and graphic files, all the reference images and all my renders! I was flabberghasted. But this means I have all my work and I have immediately uploaded EVERYTHING up to Bespin Cloud City to store my files there. With luck I won’t lose any more work as I will upload all new files straight away now. (I found a total of 5GB of lost data – yes that much!)

So now I have the pleasure of introducing you to a new little buddy of mine who was inspired by the droid seen in the recent Jedi Fallen Order computer game named BD-1. My buddy is named dROYd or ROY to his friends and has been excited to meet you but he is a little shy too…so here are a few in studio and wireframe pictures to start with….

As you can see, ROY is a little shy but from the wireframe images you can see he is a small bipedal droid but don’t let that fool you, he is very high tech! He can patch in to computer systems, open and close blast doors, project holographic images such as maps and schematics, he even tight-rope walks along cables to gain access to remote platforms etc and activate bridges. He has twin antennae so he can pick up First Order/Imperial transmissions, a multi-wavelength optic sensor eye (he can see “hidden” laser grid security beams and stuff) and even has card slots so he can store info from datacards! He is very versatile. Ok ROY, do you want to come out and let everyone see you properly…they’re my friends….yeah? Come on it’s time for your Glamour Shots!…

This is ROY! See he’s ok if he meets friends of mine. He has a rather nice white colour scheme with red trim, but if the need arises I can customise him and give him a makeover into any pattern I like! You can see on his front and rear body panels  controls for his many high tech functions. You can even see his Input/Output sockets and card slot. Now ROY is a little insecure about his legs but it is his legs that make him so nimble and agile. He also says he can sense an “Evil Roy” that works for the bad guys. I don’t know if there is a “Bad Robot” but here are a few pics so you can compare how close I got to BD-1 from Jedi Fallen Order…

I think BD-1 and ROY look like droid brothers! And there WAS a bad robot version too. Luckily the bad robot isn’t as advanced, it lacks the flexibility and control panel ROY has so he shouldn’t worry. ROY you are a much better dROYd!

I think this just about covers today’s very special introduction. I hope you enjoyed meeting ROY I never thought you’d have the chance to be honest. But as I have recovered my files I have enough new models and stuff for about two months of posts now. There is too much to list here but I hope you’ll call back to see what else I have saved in future posts. Thanks for all your support whilst I struggled with Windows, you are all appreciated whether a new or regular viewer. Till next T.I.E……

Frankie’s “Nothin’ Nerdy” Saber – a 1000 Subscriber gift

Hello Everybody for an impromptu “Special Gift” post! I have recently “met” a nice young lady by the name of  “Nothin Nerdy” also known as Frankie, who has her own YoutTube and Twitch streaming channels. On these channels Frankie livestreams while she plays Star Wars computer games such as “Star Wars: The Old Republic” (SWTOR) and the new “Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order”. However I was introduced to Frankie when I saw her video on YouTube where she was unboxing her new custom saber. I left a comment on her video and to my surprise Frankie replied and from there we started a conversation and we got to know each other a bit. Frankie helped me get into using message boards and live streaming (giving me instructions on how to sign up etc) and I introduced her to some of my designs. Well, Frankie had the ambition of reaching 1000 subscribers on YouTube before the new year and I kinda suggested that if she reached that milestone I would design a custom saber just for her. Frankie reached that milestone in the past few days and as I am a Jedi I kept my promise and here is the saber…Now Frankie just follow the instructions and reach out…call to your saber!…

See Frankie, I kept my word as a Jedi, I hope you like it! It has a double pronged/shrouded emitter (which are all the rage at the moment!), gold accents and trim, as well as an illuminated activation switch. The saber even has a “Double Crystal Chamber” with a red and green crystal cube. And just to make sure we know you are a Jedi it has the Order’s logo on the pommel. Oh! I just realised you can’t see those details in the reveal video so here are a few images for you (I know you like gold!)….

These pictures are textured using a basic preview material making the model gold all over so you can’t really see it in full “Technicolour” so how about I take you on a virtual tour of your hilt? Here is a short video to show off some of the details…

I think you can see all the details in this video and as you are a fan of the Jedi Consular character in SWTOR I made a double bladed staff version for you too! The saber also sports the pink blade you hinted at so this is quite unique (and the switch matches too). I hope this saber and staff serve you long and well, I’ll arrange with you to send some full size images and videos for you to keep OK? Here are a few of them…

Now I’d like to share a few links to Frankie’s Social Media platforms as she deserves as much support as possible so if you like Star Wars, computer gaming or generally having fun celebrating all things Star Wars then please check them out.

Please visit Frankie and help her channels out, you will have a great time as the community that has built up around her are a great bunch.

Thanks Frankie for becoming a friend of mine and I hope you have continued success in the future…and speaking of futures that includes “Level Up Days” and guess who just got a little bit older today? Yes For Tyeth just became “For T Four” (Forty Four) years young and I just wanted to share with you a few pics of my birthday presents I got!

Ok I think that just about wraps up this special “Gift Giving” post, I hope you all enjoyed it and again to Frankie, thank you for being such a warm welcoming member of the SW community and inviting me to join your circle of friends and I hope you will feel part of the For Tyeth family here!

To all my followers, new and regular (including those in Brazil – I see you!) thanks so much for your continued support it means a lot. Please call back for future posts as I hope to do a review of “The Rise of Skywalker” and I have a whole storeroom full of new saber designs to show you all. Till next time….

Starkiller S-Curve Saber – Inspired by Galen Marek and TFU 1+2

Hello Everybody, first off the bat I apologise if I sound a bit congested and sickly but I have been battling a nasty chest infection this past week! I normally don’t complain about being ill and just try to get on with things but this is the worst case I have had. But I have used it to my advantage and really concentrated on 3D modelling to distract myself from runny noses, headaches and wheezy coughs…and I think it was worth it. I had already built a base model of this hilt owned by Galen Marek, who was Darth Vader’s secret apprentice in the Playstation computer games “The Force Unleashed” and “TFU 2”. Marek was a “Force Sensitive” as a child and caught the attention of Darth Vader who killed Marek’s Jedi parents and kidnapped the boy to train him as his right hand servant. He was trained in the Dark Side of the Force and forgot his roots and real identity as he attempted to gain the official position of Vader’s apprentice. But before he could do that he had to build his saber and here is a picture from the game of him doing just that…

So I had to build a version of this hilt as it is quite popular within the saber community and is thought of as a “holy grail” design, but, as I have mentioned before I struggled to make smooth sweeping geometry and parts with previous software but when I discovered Blender I had more control. The problem was, the shape of the emiiter is iconic and in engineering terms complex to get right. The emitter is known as an “S-Curve” and the edge of the opening curves in all three axis and the shape has to be symmetrical! I just couldn’t do it, so ended up with a slanted emitter as seen here…

I liked the saber but I was annoyed by the emitter as I had to leave off some details which would only work with the much more elegant and curvy shaped S-Curve. I tried numerous times to create a tube, then shape another “block” to use as a form and cut into the tube to achieve the shape. No luck. I eventually had to resort using an engineering trick to cut pipework and use a template to wrap around the part and cut to the template. Well I couldn’t attach a real template but I did use an image of a template as a guide like I did with my recent Star Destroyer hilt. I then dragged and positioned the individual points (known as Vertices) that connected the surface faces of the model into the right places. This was very tedious and had to be exact and so with this chest infection I decided to concentrate 110% on modelling the emitter and forget my illness….and I think it worked! Here are a couple of studio work in progress pictures…

In the wireframe images you may be able to make out the blade socket and the “mouth” of the emitter and see a curved line that moves from left to right, front to back and which wraps up and down around the blade. That is the S-Curve and there is now a band, around 20mm wide that forms a collar which was missing from my original. This is important as the saber was modelled after a photographic flashgun handle known as the “Graflex” (but more on that later. Now enough talking Starkiller needs to get this saber ignited and I need to show you the Glamour Shots…

As I mentioned the tube for this design was inspired by the 1930’s-40’s style camera flashguns seen used by newspaper reporters in old movies. They were called Graflex flash handles and LucasFilm used one to build Mark Hamill/Luke Skywalkers’ saber from Star Wars. The funny “Bunny Ear” shaped bits are actually the release mechanism for the flashbulb and the metal band held the bulb when pressure was released on the “Ears”. The Graflex flashgun however didn’t have a crystal chamber, that is strictly a Star Wars inspied detail. The other details include low profile activation switches on the ridged box, a pinched in “wasp-waist” midsection and the four rails running the length of the handgrip. Oh and a copper plated band!

Galen was raised as a Sith Apprentice so you may wonder why I have a blue blade on this hilt? Well, Galen was double crossed and betrayed by Vader during a particular mission and left for dead (Vader was testing Marek to see if he was worthy enough to be his apprentice…a do or die test) But Marek survived and later learned of his real identity, the son of Jedi Knights and turned to the light side. However as he was originally a Dark Side user and his saber was red once I made a few pictures showing his Sith version along with the Jedi hilt…

I thought I would take this hilt outdoors and see how it looked… er sort of, just a Blender image trick but I think it looks alright out in the wild. I have nearly finished this post but I have to let you know about some upcoming designs. The first and biggest news is that I have recreated an absolute ICON in Star Wars…the aforementioned “Graflex/Skywalker Lightsaber” The Graflex is a holy grail for saber collectors, builders and 3d modellers and I have achieved building one myself through the efforts I put in for this Starkiller hilt. The Graflex will be coming soon but I also have a few double bladed staff weapons (and the single hilt versions) so I hope you will return to see all these new designs in future posts. I really need to say a big thank you once more to all of you, my viewers/readers/followers as you keep supporting me and this site to produce more. You are all appreciated… Till next time….

Oh Wait! You may be wondering why the name Starkiller? Starkiller is the codename given to a clone of Galen Marek that Vader and the Emperor created after Marek died saving some Rebel fighters including Mon Mothma (Leader of the Rebel Alliance who gave the speech to the Rebels about Bothan Spies stealing the Death Star plans!)

Dishonoured Saber – Inspired by EA Games’ Jedi Fallen Order

Hello Everybody, I was going to post a hilt based on the famous Star Destroyer ship today but I have had a change of plans. The reason being that I have been working on a hilt inspired by the upcoming computer game by EA Games and Respawn Games, named Jedi Fallen Order. There has been a trailer posted online advertising it and numerous pictures of the cover art for the game featuring a damaged hilt with wires hanging out of it and a blue blade projecting from a distinctive emitter.

Well news of this game buzzed the Internet and Social Media and the very day these images were posted certain individuals set to work “creating” their own 3D take on it. I liked the design and wanted to complete the hilt as it looks as if part was missing. so I set to work and came up with my own version. Well, it turns out one professional saber designer posted his design and complimented himself on how quickly he had built “his” model – within 24 hours. I built the base model of mine in roughly the same length of time but didn’t post it as I was going to post it nearer the release date of the game. However the designer works for one of the big saber manufacturers in America and they have started selling the model and people have started receiving them, so I felt I should post my version now as twin pronged emitters seem to be popular right now. So here are a few work in progress images…

As you can see it has a distinctive double prong emitter (my own modified design), a nice thin necked section, the Knurled handgrip section but it has my own designed pommel part. The original emitter had two flat plates above and below the blade but I made an inset and raised it to make the plate seem embossed up. The pommel I also made to reflect the emitter having a twin pronged opening and some nice inlaid segments, not visible in these pics but there is one that show the details below in the glamour pictures. The knurling on the handgrip are properly aligned on my design and appear as “blocks” (as per the original EA/Respawn version) rather than the “diamond” shaped cutting on the other designer’s model. However enough chat, you want to see a few more pictures so it is time for the Glamour Shots….

You can now see that the pommel has some nice inlaid sections filled with an accent colour. You will also be able to see the two tiered plates on the emitter making them look like medieval shields. And there is also some etched circuitry patterns located between these plates – just like EA/Respawn’s original. But to demonstrate I am not just copying a design and that I am always trying new stuff I made a few variants of the design and I have finally worked out how to add 3D image backgrounds so here are a few more pictures for you to enjoy…

I have a Dishonoured Saber in the Falcon! You can also see my original model I made which I called “Orderly” as in Fallen ORDER but I thought “Dishonoured” fit better as a name. There is also my Darkside versions with Sith red blades and a much darker and sleek black and silver colour scheme. The next picture shows a prototype model that was built by EA/Respawn Games’ design team to evaluate “THIER” design. The picture was circulated on the internet after the lead designer (allegedly) posted it on his Social Media – I included this to give credit to EA and Respawn Games for their work. Finally the final picture shows how I have modified my own design and modelled a new emitter named “Temple” with silver and gold and a Jedi symbol embossed onto it. (This will feature in another new build of mine in the near future!)

I think that just about wraps up this offering. I want to thank EA Games and Respawn Games for creating the original design. It was fun testing my skill in making this tribute of sorts. I hope you enjoyed it and I will post the Star Destroyer hilt next week as I have gone overboard with the 3D image backdrops. I want to thank you, my viewers/readers, whether a regular or new first time visitor I really appreciate your support as it keeps me designing and building. Till next time…..

Alice Saber – Inspired by Resident Evil

Hello Everybody, today I bring you the hilt I have been teasing for the past month that is for the lead lady in a hugely popular film and gaming franchise. That person is Alice, who the heck is Alice? Well she is a product of the Umbrella Corporation, a shadowy company intent on controlling the world’s Biotechnology but as usually happens….that company was compromised and went out of control. Alice originally starts out as a Security Operative for the Corporation at a vast underground bunker facility called “The Hive”. An incident at the Hive resulted in the artificial intelligent computer system wiping out the human workforce and Alice and her “husband” Spence were the only survivors after being sent to investigate. One problem arose, a virus was stolen by Spence when he discovered Alice intended to stop Umbrella and close it down. A battle ensued, at the end of which a horde of zombies were created whilst Alice is captured by Umbrella scientists and placed in quarantine. When she awakes, Alice has no memory of previous events and has to recover her memory and fight her way out of the virus ravaged Racoon City…oh and stop Umbrella for good.

Through the 6 (I think 6, I’ve lost count!) movies she becomes a fighter for the non infected human race and tries to save them from a pathogen developed by the out of control Umbrella Corp. However Alice didn’t just try to stop a virus/pathogen she had to contend with various zombie creatures that were the result of failed testing, mutated dogs, giant hammer/axe wielding humanoids as well as the corporation’s supercomputer which developed a self awareness and saw Alice as a threat. So I thought Alice needed a saber and here are a few work in progress studio pictures….

Now my regular viewers may recognise this saber sort of, it is based on my “Angelic -Inspired by Charlie’s Angels” hilt but I have given it a new attitude and aggressive paint scheme! The Umbrella Corporation’s corporate colours are red, white and black and while I was experimenting to get the right colour for the Angels’ saber I stumbled on this colour combo. I also noted that the octagonal blocks I used as “wheel arches” were the same shape as the famous “Umbrella logo”. I had the idea to sneak an Umbrella logo into the pommel to cover the speaker vent. The crystals were turned red to look like three vials of the pathogen “T-Virus”, and as this hilt is intended for Alice I inscribed her name on the sides of the hilt in the Resident Evil font. No mistaking who this saber belongs to! Ok, I’ve rambled on so here are a few more Glamour Shots…

In these pictures you get a better idea of the new attitude and look! No messing! Now I couldn’t possibly go through the entire story of Alice, but her exploits take her to desert survivor outposts, an abandoned prison complex and even the frozen wastes of the north. I asked who is Alice, well I gave you an introduction to the fictional character but the actress who portrays her on film is the fantastic Mila Jovovich.

I am approaching the end of this post but as always I have housekeeping to do. I continue to design new stuff and have more Stormtrooper hilt designs, a pair of hilts for the Star Trek franchise, a pair of hilts for two exo-suited warriors, a massive three bladed hilt for a Norse god and I even have a saber that resembles a space mining ship! All of this and more will be in upcoming posts so I hope you’ll join me for them. And again thank you so much for visiting this site and supporting me, whether this is your first visit or you regularly drop in, it is much appreciated. Till next time!
