“Tobi Saber” – for the cybernetic boy Jedi

Hello Everybody, today we venture back into the Star Wars Visions universe and take a look at the story of a cybernetic boy scientist who dreams of being a Jedi Knight. This droid is named To-Bi and he works with his creator and father figure Mitaka on a project to “terraform” planets. During the pairs’ experimentations To-Bi makes it known he wants to be a Jedi and also asks what is in the basement of their home. Mitaka tells To-Bi that to become a Jedi he needs to find a Kyber Crystal and construct a lightsaber, which To-Bi starts to search for. He wanted to look in the basement but was forbidden to go down there. .. but he decides to disobey and he sneaks downstairs. Upon venturing into the forbidden room To-Bi discovers an inoperative shuttlecraft which he then begins playing in and pretending he is a Jedi on a mission. Unfortunately the radios are functional and he transmits a message which is overheard by dark forces…namely a Sith Inquisitor. Inquisitors were used to hunt down the remaining Jedi after Order 66 wiped most of them out. Even worse though, the Inquisitor traces the transmission and shows up at the scientists’ home world.

Upon learning that an Inquisitor has arrived Mitaka confides to To-Bi that he was once a Jedi but as he was injured so couldn’t continue (Mitaka had lost both his arms). Mitaka hides To-Bi in a secret hideaway along with his broken lightsaber hilt. There is a bit of a commotion and when To-Bi finally emerges from his hiding place a terrible realisation happens….the laboratory has been ransacked and ….Mitaka has been killed. I think I have talked enough about the story so I had best show you the first gallery of “Tobi Saber”….

This is a rebuild of Mitaka’s hilt which To-Bi takes into hiding with. In the cartoon we don’t get to see really clear images of it as the action is frantic so I had to make some decisions and use artist license as to how it looks but I think it worked. This saber has clean lines with a pair of shroud plates on the emitter which kind of follows the aesthetic of Cal Kestis’ lightsaber from the “Jedi Fallen Order” computer game. Back to the story and To-Bi continues his creator’s work and during this endeavour he discovers a truth…To-Bi is himself powered with a Kyber Crystal! To-Bi manages to repair the hilt but all this renewed activity is sensed by the Inquisitor who returns. Now I had best show you Gallery Two with a few close ups…

Yes! To-Bi was a Kyber Crystal powered droid and it turns out the Inquisitor detected that and tracked back to confront the new source of possible Jedi. Then there was….well I don’t want to spoil the ending so I’ll end here. Sorry folks but I was going to have to end soon as my posts have been cut short recently for security reasons surrounding my on Jedi Mission. Hopefully you will have still enjoyed my posts. “Tyeth’s Original” – Finally I design a saber for my own character!

Hello Everybody, today I have a treat for you all and for myself for a change. I have been designing lightsabers since 2015 and publishing this site since 2016 but in all that time I never got round to designing a saber for myself until now. If I recall I was chatting with Resa of Graffiti Lux Art & More (see her site here: https://graffitiluxandmurals.com/ ) and I mentioned I hadn’t built a saber for myself and she suggested I should…so I did, And it turned out quite stylish I have to say – most times when I attempted this project I was never satisfied how “my saber” looked but this one I did like. So now it’s time to reveal “Tyeth’s Original”….

Strangely this saber has (in my mind) an art deco style to it, almost as if I had used an old table lamp and recycled it’s stem to form a hilt. It features a sleek elegant handgrip which is accented with delicate brushed gold effect piping. This piping I imagined was conduit tubing that wiring ran through (to prevent wires being exposed as it ran through the different parts of the hilt body. The hilt emitter has windows to show off the blade as it forms before exiting the mouth of the emitter. This section looks like the socket where a light bulb would screw into a lampstand. Again this post is going to have be shorter than normal so I had best open Gallery Two for you to look at some close up details….

I think you can clearly see why I thought this looked like a candlestick style lamp! I purposely kept the colour scheme simple with a kind of brown with brushed gold making it look antique (despite being new and hi-tech). The colours also make the blade stand out too. The blade is activated by a no-nonsense illuminated on/off switch. The third image shows the mouth of the emitter with it’s “bulb socket” connector where the blade projects from. Finally, the pommel is a simple vented design consisting of twin concentric rings edged in gold.

Now I apologise once more but this post will have to be cut shorter than usual as I am here, there and everywhere trying to avoid the Dark forces out to hinder my mission (or am I sat at Tyeth Towers relaxing? Who knows? I’m afraid I have to keep you all guessing for security reasons).. But I can reveal that next week we will be revisiting my Shipyards division with a design for a new starfighter that is armed to the teeth and has it’s own Hyperdrive unit (which for a Snub Fighter is rare!).

“The Twin Saber” – Inspired by Kare from Star Wars Visions episode “The Twins”

Hello Everybody, today we visit the Anime adventures set in the Star Wars universe and the “Visions” animated series. This time I focus on the episode titled “The Twins” which revolves around a brother and sister who were conceived by a group of Darkside/Sith Acolytes with the intention that the pair gain control of the galaxy using a super weapon. That super weapon is a massive double hulled Star Destroyer that carries an even bigger hyper cannon between the ship’s two fuselages…and that cannon is powered by a Kyber Crystal. The episode begins with Master An, the sister, making final preparations before using the super cannon and she talks with her protocol droid, explaining how she and her brother were created to carry out the mission to dominate the galaxy. The droid is concerned about An’s safety as the armour that she wears is powered by Sith energy and it seems it is consuming her beyond what was intended. An however dismisses the droid’s concerns and ploughs on with the plan. BUT…just as the weapon was about to fully charge…the Kyber Crystal is stolen – and only two people had physical access to the crystal….Master An and her brother, Kare.

It turns out that Kare, who was also created by Sith alchemy isn’t as corrupted by the Darkside as his sister is and he feels a twinge of consciousness that compels him to stop his sister before it is too late. This leads to an inevitable clash between the two siblings. Kare manages to partially escape with the crystal in his X-Wing but his sister uses the Force to pull his spaceship back to the super destroyer. A battle of wits and lightsabers ensues as Kare tries to convince An to “do the right thing”. Anyhoo…too much talking you need to see some pictures and I was able to screengrab these pics as reference…

The saber is quite distinctive and has a “Darth Vader-esque” appearance but has a blue blade – unusual for a Sith. The hilt also has a large unique black emitter shroud and large red activation switch and belt hanger loop. These images are from the animated show, so shall we see how close I got to modelling this lightsaber? OK here you are, Gallery One of The Twin…

Considering I only had two good reference images to work from, I came pretty close to replicating Kare’s lightsaber! And I am really happy how this turned out as I think I got most of the details. The emitter has a neat detail with a strip of light that edges the shroud matching the blade. During the battle the Kyber Crystal is destroyed but An is still intent on domination and resorts to using her battle armours’ full power to harness the Darkside. Kare needs to stop her but how? Well he realises that he can use a shard of the Kyber Crystal in his saber to supercharge it. Which he does. Now here is Gallery Two showing a few closeups and the main feature of this hilt…

I managed to model the very unusually shaped emitter, I added a few bits of exposed wiring, I even fitted the belt hanger loop….but again the star of this hilt is the Crystal Chamber. This time the chamber is located under the hinged activation switch box, which can swivel open to expose the chamber housing and cradle. This saber has a piece of the blue Kyber that was destroyed…but it still had a bit of power in it. Was it still powerful enough to defeat Master An and her Master Plan? You’ll have to watch the show if you haven’t already!

All I can say is that Kare came up with a very “out of the box” solution to his predicament. I hope you enjoyed this offering because I really had fun building this one. My designs/models are getting to the point that they are looking more real than ever which I am proud of. Speedster – Hoth Edition – a real snowmobile!

Hello Everybody, well I am still recovering from my big mission at the Comic Con I visited back on the 22nd so today I thought I’d show you my repainted Speedster bike. I liked the camouflaged paint scheme I showed you on my other bike but sometimes you’re in a much colder environment and need a vehicle that blends in a bit better. Soo, I repainted the speederbike in a nice snow camo look. Here is Gallery One showing the studio shots….

I decided to post this gallery of studio shots because when this beaty gets out into the open and speeds over the plains of Hoth you’ll find it hard to see it! However, these pictures show the speeder’s curves and lines a little better than the regular camo coloured bike did. The big front body section with the large air intake grille, laser blaster barrels and the directional control outriggers shows off the curves and recessed upper bodywork which is highlighted by the contrasting black outlining. You will notice that the engines give off a different emission colour, being blue instead of the warmer yellow of the regular model – this shows that the exhausts emit cooler air and anti-grav effect. Well we don’t want to melt the ice when travelling over frozen lakes or rivers and get wet feet! The rear bodywork displays the body panelling and access hatches much more clearly and topped off by the ridged seating pad. And so I guess it’s time to unleash this Speedster out onto the snow fields of Hoth don’t you? Time for Gallery Two….and good luck spotting it…..

It was a particularly cold day on Hoth when I took these photos so I was able to use the regular power settings hence the exhausts show yellow again. I did this as the snow/ice were much thicker and I could hover the bike higher (allowing me to get under the bike for the last two images). But you can see how well the camo blends into the scenery and combined with it’s agility and speed this bike would be a hard target to hit. Again this is just a repaint but I do have a few sorta custom colour schemes I have to showcase in a future post so stay tuned for those.

I have also managed to watch the new Star Wars animation series called “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi” and it was quite good . I did notice that the animation style was much more 3D based with graphical techniques used to add texture to the images. This meant there was much more detail, such as life-like hairs, rough scratched metals and stonework, cloth moved and flowed realistically making the footage look almost cinematic. The stories centred on Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku’s characters and show Tano’s development as a respected Jedi whilst we see the fall of Dooku due to his growing distrust and belief in the ways of the Jedi Council. We see how events lead each Jedi to take the paths they did – and we even got to see a young Qui-Gon Jinn (whom some of you will know was the student Padawan of Count Dooku!) The series was more or less filling in the backstory so nothing too spectacular (and it only really had two new lightsaber designs in it) but it was good for an hour or two.

Anyhoo, I hope you will return to FTSabersite in future for new posts with some saber designs inspired by the other recent animation show “Visions” – I’m quite proud how they turned out. FT’s First Comic Con…In Costume!

Hello Everybody! Well I am now back home at Tyeth Towers after a very eventful weekend last week. As you may recall I had received a request from the Jedi Council that I go on a mission to investigate a disturbance in the Force – and that disturbance was centred around a Comic Con. Here is what happened….

The day started early, I prepped my outfit because this mission required that I go in full Jedi dress. I got my boots, tunic, belt and robe and slipped into them. I took my lightsaber off the charging stand knowing it was fully charged for any “skirmishes” I might have. I picked up my Credits to pay for my tickets (and no I don’t get expenses from the Council!) and left Tyeth Towers. Here is where the first fun of the day happened. I didn’t decide I was going to take the mission till late and so hadn’t booked transport, as a result I I had to walk to a public bus pickup point…..and remember I am in my costume! You should have seen the looks from local people as a Jedi Knight walked past them…robe billowing out behind me. Passersby in cars nearly crashed as the drivers gawped. It was during this walk I also found out how heavy my boots were – I had only worn them in my flat. Eventually I got to the bus stop and boarded the bus to take me to the next city. And again a bewildered look on the driver’s face!

I arrived at the city where the Comic Con was taking place and a quick 5 mimute walk led me to the location of the event. And I was greeted by a queue of about a hundred or more Geeks and Nerds….some of whom were also strangely dressed! I had a bad feeling about this but after around fifteen minutes I had got to the doors and paid to get in. OH BOY! This was gonna be intense.

I sensed that not only was this a gathering that could harbour Darksiders, I also sensed that someone needed my help meaning I needed to find them. Luckily there was another Jedi at the show so I asked if he had sensed anything….

Unfortunately his Jedi senses hadn’t alerted him to anything strange butI could feel something. And it was then that a Trooper appeared, it was TK-421 (I think)….

Yep! This was TK-421 and was absent from his post again (this Trooper should have been guarding the Millennium Falcon on the Death Star!). A Jedi mind trick later and I managed to disorientate him and sent him wandering the convention unaware I was present. This mission was turning out to be a LOT BIGGER than I thought…but then this was the view inside the building….

“Dark Horizons” Imperial Macrobinoculars inspired by Stormtrooper Binos

Hello Everybody, after last week’s stargazing and the Moon Knight saber we return to Star Wars and scan the skies and horizons of the galaxy’s planets. And to accomplish this I felt I needed some more powerful binoculars than the Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi binoculars I modelled and posted a fortnight ago (you can see those here:https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2022/07/09/horizons-an-obi-wan-kenobi-inspired-prop-model/ ). So…where would I get more powerful binoculars? The Empire of course! They always seem to have bigger and more powerful equipment and Space Stations than the Rebels or Jedi. However getting hold of a pair of Imperial ones was difficult so I decided I’d 3D model a pair of my own and maybe improve on the design. The original Stormtrooper binoculars seen in Star Wars A New Hope looked a bit like this….

Look Sir!…..For Tyeth’s on the horizon!

We only fleetingly see the binoculars whilst the Stormtroopers are searching the dunes of Tatooine for the droids Artoo-Detoo and C-3PO, but there are some images of the props online and a few creators have made replicas and 3D models themselves. Here is a close up of an Imperial Electrobinoculars prop.

I studied the images online and saw that these binoculars had a big drawback in my opinion. The drawback was the eyepieces for the optic lenses, they were individual eye-cups like those seen on regular real world binoculars and if you are wearing a Stormtrooper helmet then vision is limited so trying to look through binoculars would be difficult. So I had to come up with an improvement there, and after a few hours tinkering with Blender this was the result….Gallery One…..

I decided to reshape the binoculars slightly so they were more contoured to fit your grip and I also added rubberised strips like those found on lightsaber handgrips to stop the binoculars slipping. The objective lenses that capture the image have been improved and beefed up. Now they produce much better quality images and can be used in more lighting conditions as they now have Infra-red (heat) and Tactical Night-Vision sensors. This allows the binoculars to detect heat sources – useful for search and rescue – while the Tactical Night-Vision is the classic green tinted image system seen used by militaries today. Now having these enhanced optical sensors is great but you have to be able to view the images they capture so I upgraded the viewport lenses and replaced them, you can see what I installed in Gallery Two….

Yes, I replaced the individual eyepieces with a full HD video screen! I felt this would be easier to view through the mask of a trooper’s helmet .And to help I added a glare shield around the screen that can press up onto the faceplate of a helmet (or a forehead) to eliminate glare on the screen. The row of push buttons below the screen allow to switch between modes, whilst the joystick thumb controller and two knobs either side allow zoom and focusing functions along with target acquisition functions. I made these so they can link electronically with artillery pieces to provide remote aiming of the cannon/weapon! And to prove how good my binoculars are (and they work!) in the last two images you can see the background environment and in the viewscreen you can see the very same horizon. I highlighted two points to help you identify the features in the scenery and on the screen!

The final gallery above showcases the thumbstick joystick controller and the zoom and focus/sensitivity control knobs whilst the last image shows the mounting bracket. This bracket mount allows the binoculars to be attached to a trooper’s belt or backpack, a portable tripod or onto a fitting on vehicles. You will also notice the binoculars are also more rugged looking but also a bit worn and scruffy looking (“Who’s scruffy lookng?” – Han Solo)…well the texture I used to skin this model is quite clever. The texture is a base layer of plain white but I worked out how to add a darker patterned layer which I could distort to create a “grime layer” making the binoculars look used.

And that just about brings this post to an end as the twin suns of Tatooine are about to set below that horizon we’ve been viewing and night is falling. That means we need more light so in my upcoming posts I have more lightsabers, more lightsabers….and some new modes of transport I have modelled to show you all that feature the new texture technique I described above, I hope you enjoyed this design and will return to check out all my new stuff. “Horizons” an Obi-Wan Kenobi inspired prop model

Hello There, hi everybody. That intro should hint that I am returning to the Star Wars universe and the the new Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” for this week’s offering. I have been struggling for new inspiration in relation to lightsabers I’d like to model so I thought I would scour the universe for something just a little different to make. And there was an object which a lot of people made a fuss about because they saw it in the trailer for the new show. That object was a pair of “Macros” or as we would call them a pair of electronic binoculars! Kenobi is seen using a pair to watch a certain character in the show, but he wasn’t the first person to use a set in Star Wars history. You may recall that Luke Skywalker also had a pair of binoculars that he used twice in his search for Artoo Detoo who had escaped into the desert of Tatooine on his “mission” . Using the binoculars led to a famous scene in the movie when a Tusken Raider attacked Luke while he was looking through the Macros….famous clip where the creature screeches and raises his rifle above his head.

These Macrobinoculars seem a little bit large and cumbersome but Obi-Wan had a pair of Jedi issue binoculars which were much more sleek and compact…and it was the Jedi model that I used for inspiration. I made mine similar but not exact…I’ll let you “scope them out” and see what you think….Gallery One….

These are my “For Tyeth Field View Macrobinoculars” which are based on the Jedi model of binoculars. They are small, compact and curve to the shape of your face so the optics are perfectly placed. The control knobs on the upper surface are conveniently positioned to be operated by your fingertips as you hold the binoculars, you just have to stretch a finger and the control rests beneath it. One control increases/decreases the range and the second knob controls the focus. Pressing down on the knobs can also activate low light/night-vision modes along with a function to detect sensor arrays. I mention I made my binoculars similar well, they were actually more similar than I thought…lets play spot the difference….

Not bad huh? You will notice that I added the shield to cover the Objective Lenses which I didn’t have in the first batch of pictures. The shield looks a bit like this…

You can see the curved plate on the front of the binoculars and the hex screws holding it in place. I was in the process of putting it in position so a few screws are missing (it is hard work trying to tighten and loosen them so I can adjust the shield!). Anyhoo joking aside, I didn’t want this to be just a loose copy of the binoculars – I wanted a little extra detail in my model and the “double vision” of the two Kenobi images above gave me the idea to make these look like they were functional. So I tinkered with the model and added a few things inside….wanna take a look?

I added two images onto a pair of panels which I placed inside the model so when you move the 3D model around and peek through the eyepieces you can actually see the “real world” that the binoculars are focused on! To achieve this I edited the environment image texture that I use for the background and made two copies of the area I wanted to “zoom in on” and used these two images as the textures for the picture you see inside.

To finish this post off I have a few little bits of trivia… I said that Luke used his binoculars twice, well he actually used them three times but one scene was cut from the movie. The scene showed a conversation between Luke and his friend Biggs Darklighter at Tosche Station, where they talked about getting off Tatooine and Luke uses the Macros to look to the stars where he see’s Princess Leia’s ship being pursued by Darth Vader in the Imperial Star Destroyer from the opening shot of the movie. The second bit of trivia regards a Sound Bite. When the Tusken Raider attacks Luke in the wastelands the Raider shrieks as he raises and lowers it’s rifle above it’s head….well that shriek could be the sound of a donkey! In fact the donkey that can be seen in Laurel and Hardy’s movie “Way Out West”. The donkey is used by the comedy duo to haul themselves up onto a balcony of their hotel but of course they fail and fall to the ground and the donkey brays as if laughing. I think that sound clip was used to create the Tusken screech.

“Kenobi Saber – FT Master Series” Inspired by Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Iconic Saber

“Hello there!”….yes hello everybody! If you recognised the quote then you may have an idea who this post and saber design is in tribute to. As some of you will know Disney and Lucasfilm has just broadcast it’s latest Star Wars live action show, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and the finale aired this week. Sadly I don’t have Disney+ in my cable subscription so haven’t seen any of the shows (I still have to watch The Mandalorian too yet) BUT I felt it was time that I modelled the classic Obi-Wan Kenobi saber that he uses during the time this show is set. The show takes place between the movies “Revenge of the Sith” and the original Star Wars (A New Hope) and tells the story of what Kenobi was doing on Tatooine and how he was overseeing the young Luke Skywalker. This saber was Kenobi’s THIRD lightsaber, having lost his first during his battle with Darth Maul in “The Phantom Menace” then when he was captured by Count Dooku and the Geonossians in “Attack of the Clones” his second saber was taken from him. So much for “Remember, you lightsaber is your life”! Anyhoo the third saber was an elegant “Thin Neck” style lightsaber that looked a bit like this:

Kenobi’s third lightsaber from Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith

It was a much more complex lightsaber and one that Obi-Wan was constantly modifying and “tinkering” with. And this is the saber he used to defeat Anakin Skywalker in the pivotal duel that led to the emergence of Darth Vader – you know the whole “ANAKIN! You were the Chosen One!” bit. So it was this saber I had to model and after about two weeks’ of tinkering myself I came up with this…here’s a few “arty” work in progress shots….

These pictures show the 3D model with a “MatCap” texture on it. The MatCap texture creates a sort of “Clay Model” effect so I can see how a model is shaping up before I apply the final textures. I realised I had added a part that isn’t on the Episode 3 saber so I had to remodel that part (if you look on the neck there is a round drum shaped object with a fan like insert – this is known as the wind vane and was in real life a part of an old World War 1 rifle launched grenade!). So another hour of work and I had removed the incorrect part and modelled a new neck section. I then started adding the final textures and little details till I came up with this….here is Gallery One….

I think I came pretty close considering I had no diagrams or blueprints to base the model off, I just estimated the dimensions and did it by eye (though it isn’t far off). The saber has the elegant bell/cup shaped emitter sat atop the brass/copper thin neck section. I made the thin neck look darker and tarnished as Obi-Wan had used this hilt in battle on the volcanic planet of Mustafar so would have some signs of wear. Next to the thin neck is the black “Grenade Grip” foregrip which gives the hilt amazing tactile feeling when you hold one. The mid section of the hilt is the switch section with the copper “printed circuit” board plate. This mid section also has two old transistors used to replicate buttons on the side of the hilt. To finish the saber I modelled the “Booster Gear Cog” which is the ribbed black segment with the small belt hanging Covertech wheel attached. The Booster Cog was again a piece of WW2 hardware, this time being a section of barrel from a heavy machine gun recoil absorber. Then finally another iconic part, I modelled the pommel….this time the pommel was made out of an old sink faucet/tap. A famous bathroom accessories company named Armitage Shanks produced a faucet/tap knob called the “Starlight” and it is this knob that was used by Roger Christian (the prop designer of Star Wars) to build Sir Alec Guinness’ famous lightsaber. Anyhoo, I’m taking too much again and its time for some close up detail pictures of what I just spoke about, here’s Gallery Two….

You can clearly see the thin neck, grenade grip, the transistors and circuit board and the Booster Gear Cog in these images. And you might just be able to make out some etching, which says “Graflex” – this marking shows that the switch section is made from the clamp found on old press photographers’ cameras which were made between 1958-1970. The famous Skywalker lightsaber which Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan gives to Luke was made using a Graflex camera flashgun.

Now I mentioned that this was a saber I am including in my “Master Series” of designs and so it needs something special to qualify and that something is of course, a heart of Kyber crystal. SO this hilt features a crystal chamber inside and when opened you can see the glowing crystal within…here’s Gallery Three!….

A fitting finale to this saber design and hopefully a fitting tribute to Obi-Wan Kenobi. I have heard/read mixed reviews about the Disney show so I can’t say how good it is or not but at least we still have the original Star Wars movie content (with Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor as young Obi) to enjoy. “InVader X-1” A saber inspired by Lord Vader’s TIE Advanced X-1 fighter.

Hello Everybody and welcome back to the warm cosy surroundings of the Star Wars universe! Yes today I leave the Katanas for a while and bring you a Star Wars inspired Starfighter saber. I recently did a Starfighter hilt inspired by Kylo Ren’s “TIE Silencer ” ship (you can see it here: https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2022/05/21/ty-silencer-elite-for-tyeth-strikes-back/) but Kylo wasn’t the only Darksider to have a fancy advanced TIE-Fighter…Lord Vader also had a modded starfighter too. It was called the TIE Advanced X1 and was built by Sienar Fleet Systems. It featured many upgrades including cluster missiles, more powerful twin laser cannons , shield generators, a ten waypoint navigation system to control it’s Hyperdive….and it even had food and provisions for FIVE days should Vader need to eject. Oh yes it had an ejection seat too….almost everything that a regular stock TIE Fighter DIDN’T have! Vader did in fact need those survival supplies as, at the end of the Battle of Yavin (in the original Star Wars 1977 movie) his ship was famously knocked out of control by Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon. Vader was sent spinning and eventually crashed landed on an outpost jungle planet where he had to defeat some rather nasty animals. (This was seen in the Marvel Star Wars comics released to coincide with the Sequel Trilogy movies). The TIE Advanced X1 looked like this:

The ship had a much more bulky look to it with thicker wing strut pylons which were more like wings and instead of the tradition hexagonal solar wing panels, this featured elongated wing plates with two folds. This made the wing plates “wrap” around the fuselage bubble and body section. The chunkier look accommodated the shield generators and Hyperdrive units (again which regular TIE Fighters lacked). Anyhoo….I thought this was an Iconic starfighter and I wanted to replicate it in saber form as I had honoured the TIE Silencer and X-Wing fighters previously….so using my Quartermaster hilt as a base I created the InVader X-1!

I again used the emitter to mimic the ship’s cockpit with two red laser cannon barrels visible at the base of the round “windshield”. There is also a red Kyber crystal to replicate the eerie glow of the ships laser targeting system that lights the cockpit up. The emitter is surrounded by shrouds that wrap around and have “solar panel” texturing just like the real fighter. The saber has a basic, rugged ribbed activation switch that slides forward/back to switch the blade on/off. The handgrip is wrapped in a nice leather and on the underside of the grip near the pommel is a Covertech Knob wheel to hang this from your belt. The detailing is done in a chrome finish which stands out from the Imperial grey colour of the hilt body. Back to the shrouds you can see I mirrored those on the pommel section with a smaller pair of shroud plates. However if you look closely at the inside edges of the main emitter shrouds you will see some detailing in chrome that looks like some sort of mechanical parts exposed – those parts (and the pylon struts) are actually the same shrouds from my Mandalorian Quartermaster hilt. I forgot to delete the original shrouds when I modelled the wrap wing shrouds and I positioned them resulting in the layered look, mechanical parts inside the shrouds and solar panelling outside – I think it kinda works! You can clearly see the chromed mechanical parts in the first two images above. Another “Happy Little Accident”! “TY Silencer Elite” – For Tyeth Strikes Back!

Hello Everybody!!!!! Yes I am back…..for the moment at least. I have managed to rectify my tech issues…it was a burnt out power adaptor in the end but I had a problem ordering a new one as I was sent a charger with the wrong connector plug so I had to order a SECOND adaptor with the right plug! Trying to make purchases using mobile phone internet access is tough🤣 . Anyhow I succeeded eventually and I am back for now. I had to entertain myself watching DVDs of Dr Who and Star Wars so I kept sane while I was offline but fortunately I had a post readied to publish before the adaptor had it’s meltdown so I am going to get right to business. Here is a re-worked design based on my Mandalorian Quatermaster saber (https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2021/07/24/the-quartermaster-saber-inspired-by-the-mandalorians-the-armourer/) and my Kylo Ren Silencer saber (https://ftsabersite.wordpress.com/2019/08/24/ty-silencer-tros-saber-for-tyeth-editions/.) …this is TY SILENCER ELITE….

I really wanted to post this saber and was worried I had lost it went my laptop crashed but thank the Force I didn’t. I went to town on this hilt combining the “starfighter” body shape and wing shaped shrouds with the handgrip of the Quartermaster. Then I dressed it up in the classy black and gold colour scheme I used on my Amban Pulse Rifle saber. The Handgrip has proper textured leather graphics and the display plinth is made of the black ash woodgrain effect material I have used a few times (I used to have some flat pack furniture made of the same wood!)

The emitter is the front cockpit window and when the blade is removed you can see a small red light through the windshield (which replicates the targeting scope in Kylo’s starfighter cockpit). Behind the shrouds and emitter are two shine-through windows to let the blade glow out. Next is the activation slide switch in black and gold then the textured leather. The saber has a pommel taken from the original “TY Silencer” hilt but scaled to fit and re-textured. The saber is angular but also sleek at the same time. It has an overall intimidating look I think but it’s time for a few more close up detail pictures….Gallery Two!……

In the final image above you can see the red crystal/targeting scope and there are also two small red glowing “barrels” to represent the laser cannon barrels seen below the cockpit windshield of TIE Fighters.

I hope you like this saber, I was so pleased I was able to share it with you all as I was worried I’d lost it. I also have another version for a Dark Lord of the Sith too – but that will be in a future post. I am going to have to bring this post to an end very shortly as I don’t want to stress my laptop too much after just getting it back operational (it’s getting old like me!).
