Master K Saber – An Obi-Wan Kenobi inpsired hilt

Hello Everybody and welcome back to my regular posting slot. I hope you all enjoyed my mid-week post featuring PsychoSith’s fabulous artwork. Today I return to my usual schedule and have a saber inspired by the hilt owned by the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace. I noticed that his saber although nice was a little bit angular and looked as if it had sharp edges, Obi-Wan_Kenobis_first_lightsaber_-_SW_Card_Traderso I wondered if I could make a model of it and “soften” the corners around the emitter and on the handgrip. I set to work and came up with this new contoured version…

I remodeled the ridges of the handgrip but kept the scalloped shroud (I’ve grown quite attached to this style of shroud!) however if you look closely at the original hilt there were two notches located just where the heel of your palm would rest so I removed them to improve comfort. I also smoothed and rounded the cutouts on the emitter shroud. I have held a few real life replica models  of Kenobi’s hilt and the aluminium could be a bit sharp. I modified the pommel from my “Trooper” hilts as they were originally inspired by Obi-Wan’s to start with. So being as there wasn’t too much work needed to remodel this hilt I felt I should create a few variants…

And with a simple switch of paint this hilt takes on a sleek sinister Sith look. The hilt details are still there but black objects don’t show very well against other black objects and I decided to make an alternative Sith hilt with a red and black marble like handgrip…Obi-Wan SithObi 1 MK

Now I had made two Sith hilts, I thought how about a nice golden Jedi hilt? I painted a version in gold but I think it kinda looks more like C-3PO. I added a Jedi Order logo printed on the underside and I think you can just see it…

Now some very long time followers may remember a hilt I designed inspired by one of rock’s greatest guitarists (and part time keyboard player) who also has a name with three initials….EVH….well this next image shows an updated EVH hilt…OWK Eddie van Halen MK

And if you haven’t guessed, the guitarist is none other than Eddie Van Halen, famous for the songs Eruption and JUMP! This saber’s colour scheme was created using the same technique as my Sharkaradon Saber hilt and is coloured the same as Eddie’s famous Frankenstrat guitar.

I stopped here as I was getting carried away. But I think I proved that a single hilt can be made to look like many different styles.

I have to apologise there aren’t any “Studio Pictures” but this past week I have been really busy creating some animations for a special hilt I’ve built for a YouTuber I’ve recently met whose nickname is Nothin’ Nerdy. I commented on a video, then left a comment on her livestream and to my surprise Nerdy immediately responded to me! I have had a few chats with her since and said that when she reaches 1000 subscribers I would post a design for her. So if you are interested in the computer game Star Wars The Old Republic then please check out her YouTube channel Nothin’ Nerdy where she livestreams sessions playing the game. And if you subscribe and help her reach 1000 I will be able to post her saber sooner!

So I think that just about covers everything for this Obi-Wan Kenobi inspired saber, I hope you liked it and all it’s variants. I still have many more saber designs to come in future posts including the new Nothin’ Nerdy hilt. There are also my “Master Series” hilts and more new original hilts. I want to say a big thank you to you, my viewers, your support is fantastic and keeps me posting. I’ll end here, Till next time….

Aggressive Negotiator Saber – for Padme Amidala

Hello Everybody, today I take you back to the prequels and Attack of the Clones. Not necessarily rated as one of the best Star Wars movies but it did have a great quote which has lead to this new design. It is a saber for Padme Naberrie…who you ask? Naberrie is Padme’s family name as Amidala is the name she chose when she was crowned as Queen of Naboo. Padme was the youngest ever monarch of the planet and later entered into the world of intergalactic politics as a Senator when her reign ended after her two terms in office. Such was the affection for her from the people of Naboo, attempts were made to alter the planet’s constitution to allow her to rule for longer. Because of this and the fact Padme later went on to wed the great Jedi Anakin Skywalker (and giving birth to twins….Luke and Leia) I felt Padme deserved a saber of her own so I set to work on designing one. Here are a few works in progress pics…

Padme was a strong willed and determined young woman and as such I wanted a saber that reflected that attitude. And nothing better represented that than when she attempted a rescue of Obi-Wan Kenobi who had gotten into a little bit of trouble on the planet Geonosis. Here a droid factory was producing battle droids but Count Dooku and the Separatists captured Kenobi while he was investigating it. The rescue didn’t quite go as planned and Padme and Anakin were too captured and sent to the gladiatorial arena and had to fight for their lives. Well, Padme had a striking white outfit in these scenes and I tried to recreate the look in saber form. The emitter has raised panels to recreate the piping details near the collar and shoulders of her top. There are also silver bands to replicate the ones around the biceps/upper sleeves. I also added a “choke point” or narrowed section to represent Padme’s midriff/waistline. Originally I did colour this section in a flesh tone material but it didn’t look right on a saber (even though Padme’s suit did get ripped by a creature called a Nexu as she struggled to get free from the arena). Here a few more images including the “midriff” version…

As you can see the midriff version does look a little bit like Padme wearing her ripped outfit (if you screw your eyes up a little and look through your eyelashes!) but the colour didn’t really suit a lightsaber so I swapped it to the aluminium look. I also added smooth textures as the first version seen above looked very angular. The new smoothed look gave the hilt a bit more sleekness and elegance but I thought it might still be a little too smooth to grip securely so I added another nice little detail. That detail is the engraving of the Royal House of Naboo emblem on the handgrip. Here is another batch of pictures…

In the above images you can see the engraving of the Royal House of Naboo, which Padme served with such passion and determination, not to mention humility. And the really sharp eyed viewers may recognise the activation switch….it is based on the pendant that the young Anakin Skywalker carved and gifted to her in The Phantom Menace so she wouldn’t forget him. Padme was also seen holding this pendant during her funeral procession in Revenge of the Sith. And as Padme secretly married Anakin, I tested the hilt with a Skywalker Blue coloured blade as well. Well this just about covers everything about this saber except for one thing…the saber needs a name and that stems from the quote I mentioned at the beginning of this post. During the Geonosis arena scene battle Anakin asks Padme if the battle was an example of senatorial politics to which Padme replies….Aggressive Negotiations GIF

So the saber shall henceforth be known as “Aggressive Negotiator”!

I really think this wraps up this design and I hope you liked it. I tried to include as many little details as I could and even managed to include a bit of fashion! However I have run out of time but before I go I have to say a big thank you as always to you, my viewers and followers, you keep returning and checking my site out  which means a lot to me. Whether a new or regular visitor I hope you will come back again to see the remaining hilts I have in store for upcoming posts. Fans of Star Trek and Marvel superheroes will be in for a treat. Till next time….
