Vengeance Saber (AOTC) – My first Master Series hilt.

Hello Everybody, today is a big day because I have decided to showcase the first of my “Master Series” models! And the first one up is the hilt belonging to Anakin Skywalker in the movie Attack of the Clones! (Ep.2). I built this model way back when I made my “The Destined One” hilt for Vader but it was just a solid model. I also made a small mistake in the shape of the emitter as I based it on one of Vader’s hilts but Anakin’s is much more sleek so I remodelled it. Here are two pictures of my first attempt you may have seen in my “Upcoming Sabers” posters I posted a few months back…

I wasn’t happy with the accent LED lights on the side of the saber either, so a rebuild really was necessary. I decided to tidy up the interior of the model and reshape the emitter and replace the LEDs. And as this is a special saber I thought “let’s give it some WOW factor while I’m at it!” You have seen sabers I have modelled that have “crystal chambers” but this one has what is known as a “crystal reveal”. But before I show you what a “crystal reveal” is I will post a couple of studio pics and the remodelled non-reveal pictures…

The hilt has a D-Ring to hang the saber from a belt hook, and just below are two control knobs used to alter power and blade settings. These may look familiar as earth objects as the prop makers used electrical components called “terminal post screw and caps” which consisted of a threaded post which you wrapped bare copper wire around then you screwed a thumbscrew to fix the wire in place. They make great detail parts. The emitter has also been reshaped, and the LEDs improved. And did you see the crystal? No?….Oh I forgot….I need to do the big reveal!

I said this hilt was a bit special, not only does it have a crystal…it has TWO crystals and the saber unscrews to slide open to reveal them all lit up! I made the crystal chamber parts as interchangeable modules which fit inside the model (this was why I had to “tidy up” the interior so they would actually fit inside). The two crystals have special functions in Star Wars lore, the one in the handgrip helps power the saber while the one in the emitter helps “focus” that power into a blade.  I also went to town and added quite a bit of tiny detail into these modules as you can see in the following pictures…

This weapon as I mentioned, is the hilt Anakin owned in Ep.2 and has a sad legacy as it was the weapon he used to slay the Tusken Raiders in retaliation for the death of his mother, Shmi, at their hands. The quote above in the title image comes from the film where he describes his frustrations and actions to Padme on Tatooine. This moment in the film was the tipping point where Anakin became more like his alter ego Darth Vader. He took out “Vengeance” on the Tusken Raiders and hence my saber model’s name.

This just about wraps up my first “Master Series” offering and I hope you liked it. I am always trying to push my modelling skills and this hilt really tested me. And I couldn’t just build one so I have FOUR more “Master” hilts to show you in the run up to The Rise Of Skywalker. I hope you will return to see those (and many more) designs in future posts. Plus next week I will be joined by a very talented artist with the nickname “PsychoSith”. Thank you so much for checking this saber and post out, your support is always amazing and is much appreciated. Till next time….

Aggressive Negotiator Saber – for Padme Amidala

Hello Everybody, today I take you back to the prequels and Attack of the Clones. Not necessarily rated as one of the best Star Wars movies but it did have a great quote which has lead to this new design. It is a saber for Padme Naberrie…who you ask? Naberrie is Padme’s family name as Amidala is the name she chose when she was crowned as Queen of Naboo. Padme was the youngest ever monarch of the planet and later entered into the world of intergalactic politics as a Senator when her reign ended after her two terms in office. Such was the affection for her from the people of Naboo, attempts were made to alter the planet’s constitution to allow her to rule for longer. Because of this and the fact Padme later went on to wed the great Jedi Anakin Skywalker (and giving birth to twins….Luke and Leia) I felt Padme deserved a saber of her own so I set to work on designing one. Here are a few works in progress pics…

Padme was a strong willed and determined young woman and as such I wanted a saber that reflected that attitude. And nothing better represented that than when she attempted a rescue of Obi-Wan Kenobi who had gotten into a little bit of trouble on the planet Geonosis. Here a droid factory was producing battle droids but Count Dooku and the Separatists captured Kenobi while he was investigating it. The rescue didn’t quite go as planned and Padme and Anakin were too captured and sent to the gladiatorial arena and had to fight for their lives. Well, Padme had a striking white outfit in these scenes and I tried to recreate the look in saber form. The emitter has raised panels to recreate the piping details near the collar and shoulders of her top. There are also silver bands to replicate the ones around the biceps/upper sleeves. I also added a “choke point” or narrowed section to represent Padme’s midriff/waistline. Originally I did colour this section in a flesh tone material but it didn’t look right on a saber (even though Padme’s suit did get ripped by a creature called a Nexu as she struggled to get free from the arena). Here a few more images including the “midriff” version…

As you can see the midriff version does look a little bit like Padme wearing her ripped outfit (if you screw your eyes up a little and look through your eyelashes!) but the colour didn’t really suit a lightsaber so I swapped it to the aluminium look. I also added smooth textures as the first version seen above looked very angular. The new smoothed look gave the hilt a bit more sleekness and elegance but I thought it might still be a little too smooth to grip securely so I added another nice little detail. That detail is the engraving of the Royal House of Naboo emblem on the handgrip. Here is another batch of pictures…

In the above images you can see the engraving of the Royal House of Naboo, which Padme served with such passion and determination, not to mention humility. And the really sharp eyed viewers may recognise the activation switch….it is based on the pendant that the young Anakin Skywalker carved and gifted to her in The Phantom Menace so she wouldn’t forget him. Padme was also seen holding this pendant during her funeral procession in Revenge of the Sith. And as Padme secretly married Anakin, I tested the hilt with a Skywalker Blue coloured blade as well. Well this just about covers everything about this saber except for one thing…the saber needs a name and that stems from the quote I mentioned at the beginning of this post. During the Geonosis arena scene battle Anakin asks Padme if the battle was an example of senatorial politics to which Padme replies….Aggressive Negotiations GIF

So the saber shall henceforth be known as “Aggressive Negotiator”!

I really think this wraps up this design and I hope you liked it. I tried to include as many little details as I could and even managed to include a bit of fashion! However I have run out of time but before I go I have to say a big thank you as always to you, my viewers and followers, you keep returning and checking my site out  which means a lot to me. Whether a new or regular visitor I hope you will come back again to see the remaining hilts I have in store for upcoming posts. Fans of Star Trek and Marvel superheroes will be in for a treat. Till next time….
