Coming Soon! For Tyeth’s Newest Collection!

Hello Everybody, I think the title and the image above says it all…there is a new collection of sabers on the way. I have had a burst of energy and inspiration and built FIVE hilts and rendered them in just over four days!

Of course you can’t see them at the moment but here is the image again and I’ll let you all comment on which “outline” interests you the most.

These will be posted over the next 5-6 weeks which hopefully will enable me to finish off the other designs I have had on the back burner for a while.

EDIT: VOTING CLOSED AT 00:00 HRS (GMT) 11TH JUNE SO I HAVE THE TIME TO TYPE UP THE POST WHICH WILL PUBLISH AT 00:00HRS (GMT) SATURDAY MORNING!

Thanks for checking this announcement and I hope to see you this weekend when the first of this batch will be revealed. Till next time….

“Cat’s Whikers Saber” – Inspired by Miraculous’ Cat Noir

Hello Everybody, hope you’re all doing well and ready for another new design. Last week I featured a hilt for the greatest martial artist ever – Bruce Lee – well this week I back things down a little to a slightly less intimidating character. But he’s still a superhero. Last month I posted “Miracle Saber” for Marinette DuPain Cheng aka Ladybug and told you about her battle against Hawkmoth and I mentioned another hero. That hero gets a saber today.

His name is Adrien Agreste, and is the son of the world famous Parisian fashion designer Gabriel Agreste. Adrien is very sheltered by his father but he is allowed to attend a regular high school which is where he met Marinette – unaware that she is Ladybug and likewise Marinette, despite liking Adrien a lot, is unaware that he is her mystery sidekick…..Cat Noir! Cat Noir is the quick witted, nimble superhero that has a devious charm and a very special weapon that he uses in combatting Hawkmoth’s zombie Akumatised victims. That weapon is a special baton that is ridiculously strong, has the ability to extend to amazing lengths allowing him to use it to “pole vault” around and over obstacles and traverse the city of Paris. It can deflect projectiles and it even has a mobile phone built into it…BUT….it isn’t a lightsaber! So I “fixed” it so it is a proper hero’s weapon for an elegant time! Here is Cat’s Whiskers….

This hilt is based off of Cat Noir’s extender baton and has a matching dark grey coating and green accents. The saber looks sleek and simple, just like the baton but I did add an illuminated activation switch in the shape of a cat’s paw/claws. The green bands are actually slightly recessed ridges to provide a bit of grip and decoration. Speaking of decoration, the pommel end cap features a “Cat’s Eye” emblem in green also (just like his eyes!). I think green is Cat Noir’s colour…

Here you can see Cat Noir with his baton in it’s extended version (though it can extend MUCH longer when needed) but as you can see it lacks the illuminated switch. I felt that my updated version of this weapon was too similar so I did add another piece of decoration which I modelled in 3D to test myself. That decoration is another “paw print” on the reverse side of the saber and is embossed into the surface of the hilt. You can see the emblem which is very important in these next batch of pics, along with a couple of my saber extended too!…

The paw emblem is a “reverse print” pattern of the activation switch (i.e. the raised sections are now sunken and vice versa) and this logo also appears on Cat Noir’s Miraculous trinket. Remember I mention Ladybug and Noir transform by using a magical object or piece of jewellery, well Cat Noir’s Miraculous is his finger ring which has the cat paw logo imprinted on it. The logo also displays a sort of timer showing how long he can remain as Cat Noir before the magic runs out. It is this ring (and Ladybug’s ear rings) that the villain wants and tries to steal in each episode. Hawkmoth…Ah yes….I said there was a Star Wars style twist regarding him didn’t I? It turns out that Cat Noir’s secret identity is so secret…..even HIS FATHER doesn’t know who he is….have you guessed the twist yet? SPOILERS!!! Hawkmoth is……..

OK, I had better stop this post here before I reveal anything that may ruin your pleasure watching Miraculous – The Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir in future – just in case you haven’t seen it. But before I go I have a short announcement to make and my usual thanks and salutations.

Recently WordPress announced that they are testing/rolling out a new feature onto “free account” blogs and sites. This comes in the form of “Sponsored Native Posts” which they describe as a way to generate traffic and awareness of blogs, posts, products and brands (whatever that means). They (WordPress) also state that the authors of free blogs (like me) cannot control what is posted on my pages, so you might read this post on my Homepage and directly above it will be a “Sponsored Post” inserted by WordPress. That post could be about anything! But there is a way around this and that is to upgrade to a paid account which will block these ads. Now I didn’t mind the small ads at the bottom of the pages of my site but full blown post entries I’m not totally happy about. I was considering upgrading as I will soon need more online storage but now this situation has arisen and I may need to consider paying for Hosting. Unfortunately I may have to ask for your help in future if I upgrade. FTSabersite would continue to offer free content as normal but I might have to add a “Members Only” subscription section or similar monetization (which the upgrade also allows for). But I would like your opinions on what “perks” you think I could offer for a subscription fee and whether you would be willing to pay for those. (Believe me I wish I wasn’t faced with this dilemma, however this blog due to my circumstances is just a hobby but one I put a lot of effort into and I’d like to keep it as it is).

Anyhoo, back to the “Thank You” notes I always finish on! Thank you each and every one who has visited (and read this far!) to support me and FTSabersite. You are all very much appreciated as I wouldn’t have an audience if you didn’t turn up. Please comment, like or follow me and spread the word about FTSabersite. I still have lots more to showcase. Till next time….

FT’s Review of 2020 and look forward to 2021….What a year.

Hello everybody welcome to my last post……of the year that was 2020! Don’t worry I’m not quitting blogging just yet – even though this past year has made me think about it. What a year it has been, viruses and operating system crashes….laptop failures….premature and sad deaths….and a terrible pandemic sweeping the planet called Covid 19.

January started with mixed reviews of the final film of the Star Wars Skywalker saga with The Rise of Skywalker. By the end of the month it also had the UK worried about a new illness discovered in two Chinese nationals staying in a hotel in the city of York. Covid had already been detected in China during December but this was the first time I had heard anything about this killer illness. But in more positive news I did model and create a couple of hilts from the movie Rise of Skywalker. I got to see the film on the 20th December and by the 22nd I had built these…not bad for a beginner!

February was a good month (sort of) as I finally resolved an issue with my bank and received some compensation for mis-sold insurance. This meant I had a little bit of earth cash and I needed a new laptop as my existing one from 2007 was nearly at capacity and was struggling to perform what I wanted. So I knew I couldn’t afford a complete new setup so I decided to purchase a higher spec refurbished model. I thought the machine would last a year or two while I saved the full amount needed for a new desktop. I was wrong but more on that in a little while. In February I posted a few designs ranging from hilts inspired by LucasFilm’s new Mandalorian tv show on Disney+ along with a hilt from Mulan too. I also had the honour of building a model based on my friend PsychoSith’s beautiful artwork and a well known custom saber company in Portland Oregon was selling off cheap lightsaber parts in a “scratch and dent” sale. These parts were either Quality Control rejects or parts that were damaged in the building process and the company’s owner was selling them to amateur builders to use. Well one of these bargain basement deal pieces caught my attention so I made my own 3D version and turned it into a full hilt – I like to recycle! Oh and I built a saber for Zorro….yes a lightsaber Rapier!

March was another mixed bag as the first deaths were announced (UK) and worries about the Coronavirus grew and a Partial National Lockdown was implemented to contain and control the spread of the disease. It was also during March I started having tech issues with my new I5 laptop. I put the issues down to the problems Windows 10 had on certain computers and tried to work round any glitches. BUT I ended up having to re-install the operating system. I lost some of my files…but miraculously I salvaged some later. Some of the files and designs included these interesting items…another Rapier for Inigo Montoya, a saber for a Doctor Who fan I know and a new item, a Holocron for Darth Logos.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays from For!

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate today. I hope all of you are having a great day with your families and are having fun (while staying safe). It has been a strange year and a hectic one, so I sorta forgot to make a Christmas card this year to post so I hope you don’t mind me “recycling” an old one I had…but it does show the lightsaber which I received 5 years ago for Christmas and which set me on my journey!

So, from the Tyeth household, thanks for the gift of your support and I hope you all have the best of times.

Till next time…..please saber safely if you got a new lightsaber,

I’d hate to hear about any Christmas accidents!

Jeremy Bulloch – Another Legend passes

Hello everybody, today I logged onto the web and was brought the sad news that the world and Star Wars community has lost another legend. Mr Jeremy Bulloch has sadly passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s, he was 75 years old. As you will know Jeremy was the body actor for the now legendary character of Boba Fett, THE bounty hunter in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. What some people may not know is that Boba made an on-screen appearance many years before back in 1978! Boba appeared in animated form in the Star Wars Holiday Special….but George Lucas kept Boba’s character in mind and brought him back for ESB. And Jeremy Bulloch was the gentleman to bring Boba to life. And what a job he did. Boba famously only had five lines of dialogue in the film but with his mannerisms and mystique created such a fan movement that he earned his place in Star Wars lore and got his own action figure, spaceship and inspired The Mandalorian.

The character of Boba was so great that I created a saber in his honour as part of my MandaLAWrian series of hilts I created. The Boba Legend looked like this…

BOBA Legend Saber

I wish I had had the opportunity to meet Mr Bulloch but unfortunately never got the chance, but I did meet his alter-ego sort of. This is my “meeting” with Boba…

I think Boba wants my saber!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jeremy’s family and friends, and I want to say I appreciated all that he gave to the Star Wars family and community.

May the Force embrace the Original Bounty Hunter

Yes My Lord – Dave Prowse, Lord Vader, Legend and Gent has passed away

It is with great sadness that I find that Dave Prowse, the body and actor beneath the Darth Vader suit has passed away, aged 85. He was a giant of the acting galaxy but probably never got as much recognition as he should have earlier in Star Wars history (as he was kept in secrecy behind the mask to preserve his mystique). Dave was however seen in film and on screen if you knew how to recognise him, he appeared in several Hammer Horror movies with Peter Cushing (usually playing Frankenstein’s monster or the Mummy) and for kids of the UK back in the 1980’s will remember him as the face of a government road safety campaign. He was the Green Cross Code Man, a superhero that taught kids how to safely cross roads as well as the Dark Lord that tried to rule the galaxy far far away!

David was a proud Bristol born gentleman who had a career in bodybuilding which led to him getting the roles in the Hammer movies due to his physique. He also appeared in A Clockwork Orange with Malcolm McDowell . Dave was then cast as the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, though we didn’t hear him as his dialogue was famously dubbed over by James Earl Jones due to his West Country accent.

I obviously haven’t had chance to build or design a hilt in his honour but I did model Darth Vader’s hilt a while ago so I will repost the pictures here…

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr Prowse’s family, friends and the Star Wars community at large. You were the ultimate on screen villain but a gentle green giant off it.

May the Force keep and protect you forever more My Lord….

My saber is bleeding and for one day I am a Sith

For Tyeth takes Flyte – I’ve added a new saber to my personal collection!

Hello Everybody, bet you didn’t think I’d be posting today and so soon after my regular weekend slot. WELL….I have some exciting news…I have managed to acquire through a game of chance a new lightsaber! Sort of! I discovered that a well known saber supply company based in Hong Kong was releasing a new saber for the Black Friday Sales and as I had some spare credits I managed to snag one of the first batch of 100 they were selling!

NOW BEFORE I GO ANY FURTHER I WILL POINT OUT FOR LEGAL REASONS, THAT I AM JUST A CUSTOMER AND HAVE PURCHASED ONE OF THESE HILTS. I AM IN NO WAY CONNECTED TO OR ASSOCIATED WITH THIS COMPANY. OK?

As you can see the hilt is named the “Flyte” and is quite a reasonable price. A very good price in fact considering the features this hilt packs (though after the first 100 are sold the price will go up to $139 and at the time of writing this there were only 8 left!) Not only is the saber machined from aircraft grade Aluminium but it features a chassis system to hold all the internal components securely so they don’t rattle around inside and get damaged. The hilt has lights AND sounds – multiple colours of light and multiple sets of sound effects so I can mix and match. One day I may feel a bit moody and switch the blade to Red, or another day I might set the saber to sound like Luke Skywalkers’. The on site video says that the sounds are configurable via the USB connector so I think I may be able to load new sets of sounds onto the saber when I get bored of the default effects. So this hilt has multiple colours, sounds and the sounds are “Blended” so they don’t have gaps or clicking noises when each recording starts/stops as you swing the hilt. It has the chassis to make the hilt “duel worthy” meaning when I’m at a Comic Con in future and any little Sith or Jedi have a swing at me the saber will withstand any potential damage 😀

The saber is available in plain silver, black or a vivid red finish though I chose a black version (I already have a regular silver coloured hilt and thought black would contrast nicely for a change).

The reason I got this hilt is so when I am at Comic Cons (hopefully) I will have my costume and two hilts so folk can pose with me and have a saber too if they don’t happen to have one. But for now I am eagerly awaiting for it to be delivered. I’ll let you know about it as soon as I get it and do an unboxing review.

That’s my news for today, thanks for checking it out. Now as long as I’m not breaking any rules I’ll leave the link to the PachStore’s saber pages below so you can take a look (they also sell movie collectibles).

Till next time…..

“The Flyte” lightsaber is a product of the PachStore based in Hong Kong. For Tyeth/FTSabersite are not associated or connected to the company in any way, I have just purchased one of these sabers on offer. Any trademarks/copyrights, images or IPs belong to their respective owners.

DISASTER PART 2! Microsoft messes me up AGAIN!

Hello Everybody….before I go any further I need to warn you that I really wanted to post this as a “Rated R” post but I’m just too darn polite and realise that Younglings might read this. But to say I am annoyed is a very large understatement.

Remember I was really happy this past month or so because I got a shiny new refurbished laptop? WELL…it had Windows 10 on it and Micros&%£ in their infinite wisdom decided we all had to have updates rammed down our computer’s throat and as a result my laptop got a messed up update! I was using my laptop when it started to slow noticeably and programs stuttered. I guessed it was an update loading so thought nothing of it as I had had a handful of updates already. Then while offline I was designing and all of a sudden my laptop started to get act up. It became very, very slow but the hard disk was whirring so fast it was making my laptop vibrate and sound like a power drill. I managed to investigate and discovered that the latest update that installed was one that has been identified as a “problem” and caused the exact symptoms my machine was showing. SO I followed the instructions and functions from Micros&%$ to Uninstall the problem update (known as update KB4551762). And it worked….for around 30 minutes then BANG!! A blue screen flashed up on my display saying “This PC has experienced issues and can’t continue, we’re gathering info and will restart”

YEAH Windows gathered info then SHUT DOWN and switched my laptop off fully – NO RESTART. Now I can’t get Windows to work and I only have access to the laptop manufacturer BIOS setting screens. I have tried to Refresh, Reset and Restore the machine as per Windows’ feature set – NOTHING! I have tried to recover the laptop using a Recovery USB programmed with a Virtual copy of Win 10 to reboot my machine – NOTHING! I even downloaded the Window Recover Media Creation Tool and created a second USB tool to attempt a recovery and again that FAILED!

I now have a near £200/$230 paperweight!

I have not given up trying to save my laptop as the hardware is fine it’s the messed up operating system that has P’d me off. MS and Windows messed up my last computer and now it has messed up my new one and I need it to stay connected at this difficult time (for my sanity and just so I can keep connected and able to function – you know so I can order shopping and groceries in as I can’t leave my home at the moment due to a health lockdown).

On top of this it means I have probably lost my designs AGAIN including that Chronolog I posted last week. I know, I know, why didn’t I back up my designs? Well I couldn’t afford to buy TWO new machines and my old laptop is full.

Sorry to be on a downer today but I can’t help it. It is the first REALLY bad venting post I have published in three years  (Ok there was the Asguard Thor lightsaber post but that had a happy outcome) so I haven’t done too badly.

Anyhow, thanks for all the support you have given me these past three years and rest assured I am doing all I can to get this sorted but in the present climate/Covid19 situation I’m not sure when I’ll be up and running at full speed again. BUT I hope you all keep safe and well, in the big picture that is more important. Please keep checking back to FTSabersite for news and I will be back full FORce when I can. Thanks guys and gals.

P.S. I have had to compile this post by borrowing a family member’s laptop so thanks Mrs T – I love ya!
