Happy New Year! FT’s review of 2019

Hello again and welcome to page two and the months of April, May and June! As you can see Jan, Feb and March were already busy but I didn’t let up and in April I showcased a set of sabers for an Iron Man and his compatriot War Machine, a triple bladed crossguard hilt for Thor and a lightsaber designed to look like the minig ship from the Sci-Fi comedy Red Dwarf (this was another TVTA challenge!). Let’s take a look at them….

The saber “Big Red One” actually had a display plinth which I modeled to look like a large asteroid that the spaceship “clamped” onto but my favourite hilt this month was “New Asguard Saber” for Thor! You may wonder why it was a “new” saber, well my laptop crashed whilst I was building the original version of the hilt as I was taking screenshots of it…and somehow the folder containing the files was erased! All gone, so I had to rebuild the hilt from memory! It turned out well however as the “New” hilt looked sleeker and more polished with a full length etching pattern!

May started on a very sombre note with the sad news that Peter “Chewbacca” Mayhew had passed away to become one with the Force. I wanted to pay my respects and so created a hilt in honour of Mr Mayhew and Chewie, who he gave so much life to. Also posted in May was a variation of New Asguard named Phoenix as it made a second triumphant rise from the ashes and a Trooper hilt based on the Imperial Tie Fighter Pilot…

In the gallery above you will see the original Asguard hilt design I created. I thought I had lost all my files for this saber but forgot I had saved a copy of this image to Google Photos (other file storage sites are available!) so I could email it to a friend to have a sneak peek of it! I was so happy when I discovered it and it will make another appearance later in my year review…with a piece of art on paper!

The month of June! Wow nearly half way to December! In this month a new Star Wars computer game was announced along with the release of some box art showing a new lightdsaber. Having watched SOLO A Star Wars Story, I modeled a hilt based on a Star Destroyer named Annihilator. I posted yet another Trooper saber for the 501st Legion Stormtroopers, a saber for Darth Vaders secret apprentice from the computer game “The Force Unleashed” and I managed to build a “Bionic” inspired hilt for The Six Million Dollar Man (requested by TheVintageToyAdvertiser). Will this stream of sabers ever end? Here’s more pictures…

Phew! We are halfway folks…no really we are! So if you;d like to see what appeared in the second half of 2019 please click to go to page three! See you there….

    1. Thanks so much! I get so engrossed with what I’m doing I forget or lose track of what I’ve done. I only realised how much I’d done and how far I had progressed when I counted the folders where I keep my designs. I hope 2020 is a great year for you as well!

  1. A comprehensive round up of your year. You have indeed been highly productive. Back up them folders. I am looking forward to seeing what you make next.

    1. Hello there! Thanks so much, and the designs and animations weren’t the only projects I did – I also did quite a bit of photo editing for members of the forum I mentioned. And fear not I have been cleaning the cached memory and keeping backups of backups.
As the Skywalker Saga has come to an end I am going to have to come up with more original designs and not “inspired by” replicas so I am going to have to stretch my imagination too. Thanks for all your comments and advice.

    1. Hello there, I certainly hope 2020 and beyond is good for everyone. I know I am going to have to work extra hard because Disney aren’t going to be making new Star Wars movies for a while so I will have to find inspiration elsewhere….but I have done that in the past like I did with the Hunter-X-Hunter inspired hilt I came up with 😉 Thanks as always!

      1. Yes, I hope so too 😊 I am sure you will do great and find the inspiration you need. Yay, I love HunterxHunter so much! Berserk and HunterxHunter are my most favourite anime. Your welcome dear x x

  2. Brilliant round up of your work in 2019 FT! An impressive gallery for sure, and good to see some of those TV and film sabers we dreamed up! That’s cool you got to see TROS again, and in 3D! Have a brill and creative new year my friend 🙂

    1. Thanks TVTA (and Wooof! of course) Our TV/Movie Challenge sabers had to have a place in this line up because they stretched my abilities and were such fun! I just read your great Happy New Yeats! post, it reminded me that I need to read a bit more poetry – I did read more novels last year but not poetry…I will fix that this year.

      1. It’s been good reading Yeats again – I hadn’t read him since my schooldays! I love the vast amount of poetry you can read online now, which is a real treat, but always something special about picking up an old book 🙂
