War Machine Saber – a new paint job for the Mark For-T (40) Pt.2

Hello Everybody, now as we get ever closer to the Endgame (Marvel’s latest Avengers movie) I have two more Iron Man inspired hilts for you before the BIG reveal next weekend of my new Thor hilts. So today I need to introduce you to James Rupert “Rhodey” Rhodes, a Lieutenant Colonel in the military and friend of Tony Stark the billionaire creator of the Iron Man exosuit. In the comics Rhodes was a Marine Corp pilot serving in Southeast Asia, when he was shot down and stranded in enemy territory. He happens to meet up with Tony Stark whilst in the jungle as Stark attempts to escape a nearby prison camp. Stark was in his prototype Iron Man suit (I believe it was nicknamed the Iron Monger suit as it had been hammered out and assembled in a cave using blacksmithing tools). Stark and Rhodes battled their way to freedom and became friends. Later when Stark suffered worsening health, Rhodes assumed the Iron Man suit and stood in for Stark. Things didn’t quite go to plan as the neural link between suit and man caused Rhodes to have severe headaches when using the suit. A second modified suit was built for Rhodes and was nicknamed as War Machine, and it had a new look. Well this saber is my Mark For-T (40) Saber  but it has War Machine colours!  Because you saw the studio/work in progress pictures last week I will procede straight to a few “Glamour Shots”…

As you can see this War Machine version comes in a nice military spec Blue/Grey and silver colour scheme just like the exosuit itself. The blade and Arc Reactor have been re-coloured red (no he is not a Sith) to represent the suit’s Repulsor weapons. War Machine’s eyes also glow red so I had to use that colour I guess! The hilt in this colour scheme sort of reminds me of a cannon or piece of artillery. War Machine also has interchangeable weapons that mount on his shoulders so maybe I was inspired by that too.

James Rhodes and Tony Stark were embroiled in many battles and had many ups and downs during those times but they were great friends and together they were almost unstoppable. Here they are together…(sort of!)….Assemble 1 MK

However War Machine has a very complicated history and in the Gambit series of comics [Gambit (Vol. 3) #13 May 2013] we see War Machine in a slightly different version…known as The Iron Patriot. This version is even more colourful and I have a matching saber for this incarnation too. As this is a slightly shorter post I may upload the “Iron Patriot” version and post it midweek if I have time as I have to finish polishing my new Thor crossguard hilt which I am posting on the 20th ready for the release of Avengers: Endgame.

I think that wraps this post up, thanks once more for checking it out. Whether this has been your first visit to FTSabersite or you are a long time viewer/follower remember you are very much appreciated. Till next….WAIT!! Breaking News!!!

It has come to my attention that there is a big Star Wars event taking place at the moment called “Star Wars Celebration” in Chicago…and there is news of a new Star Wars game due out which means there might be some new lightsabers to talk about. There will be a new video and details revealed at the event and so I started to work on this…Orderly Studio 1 MK

I wonder what this hilt is? Hmm, I hope you’ll come back to check out a future post to find out as it will be centre stage! Ok folks, Till next time……!

    1. Hello TVTA, New Trailer? You bet I have seen it! A backflip over a TIE Fighter? Flying Stormtroopers? The remains of the Death Star….Lando….and the CACKLE!
And I have already started work….but I’m glad you liked War Machine too.

    1. Hello Neil, the teaser image is a saber based on a design seen in the new Star Wars game “Jedi Fallen Order”. The inspiration for it is a damaged lightsaber that appears on the box cover. So it’s one less film you need to watch! Thanks for looking in again, hopefully I should have one final Iron Man hilt to post on Wednesday as a bonus then it’s time to post my new Thor inspired hilt ready for the release of Avengers: Endgame.
