Hello Everyone, today I present one of the sporting themed sabers I mentioned yesterday and I start with a team with a very unusual claim to fame. This team nicknamed the Mariners are one of the oldest teams in England and has one of the oldest stadium stands in the league. The team is Grimsby Town Football Club (GTFC). During the nineties Grimsby Town had a famous run of form and gained promotion from the lower divisions. This meant they had to travel to London and the home of English Football, Wembley Stadium, to play in the promotion deciding matches. The supporters came out in force and had some rather strange mascots. The mascots were inflatable fish called “Harry Haddock”, a reference to the fact Grimsby was once the premier Frozen Fish Dock in the world. So here is the saber I designed, The Mariner…

The Mariners wear a kit/uniform of a shirt with black and white stripes, black shorts and the whole kit has red trim and accents. I attempted to recreate the stripes using couplers to create the body instead of a dedicated body part. The FTE pommel allows me to incorporate the red colour used to trim the uniform.
This has been The Mariner Lightsaber and a few facts about the team. These facts aren’t however the biggest claim to fame the team have, this is…. Grimsby Town Football Club have never played a Home Game! It’s true, Grimsby’s stadium called Blundell Park is situated in the neighbouring town of Cleethorpes, albeit only by 400 metres. This means Grimsby have never played a match in their home town. There are plans to build a new stadium within the town boundaries but that’s for the future.
Speaking of the future, it’s that time again where I have to blow the final whistle on this post. I hope you enjoyed this design and bit of trivia, and will return for more designs I have upcoming, including a new series of FIVE sabers inspired by a new movie due out in March 2017! Thank you for your visit today. Till next time.
Hello Everybody, I posted the first of my Katana series around five days ago with Cherry Blossom Katana, then Sasayaki Shi – Whispered Death followed by the last two. Well In the description of Whispered Death I mentioned that the saber could be shortened to help either conceal it or when in confined spaces be able to use it more easily. In my excitement of wanting to show you all my designs I forgot to actually show you the “Short” versions of each design. (I would forget to take my head with me when I go outside if it wasn’t for the fact it is screwed on! 😀 )
So I will rectify that little mistake now and present a gallery of Long and Short versions of my Katana Collection…

I think that looks quite nice, I was going to use the rotating carousel slideshow but realised that might not work as well. This way you get to compare them side by side. The folks around the Internet still can’t decide on what they want in their saber designs but maybe this will help.
I will now get back to my little workshop and start work on some more Guest Designer galleries and a few more Sports related hilts (I hear there is a big American Football game at the end of January which might be interesting. Mind you my team won’t be playing 😦 ) I also need to relax a bit, I keep thinking I can see little mythical horned creatures made out of foil….Get a grip Tyeth, it’s probably just your imagination.
Anyway, sorry Guys and Gals, but time is once again upon us and I have to bring this post to an end. I hope you enjoyed this collection and will return to see my upcoming offerings. If you like what you see here on FTSabersite then please tell your friends or link to this site, it would be most appreciated. Till next time.
Hello Everybody, I have had another flash of inspiration after the comment I made at the end of yesterday’s post. I recalled some of the behind the scenes influences that shaped both the Lightsaber duelling techniques and the costume of Darth Vader. The real life sword fighting technique was Kendo and the Samurai Warrior armour influenced Vader’s outfit. And as a certain Dark Lord of the Sith made a return to the big screen recently in Rogue One (in a very special scene where we see how powerful he was!) I decided to create a Katana that fuses the character of Darth Vader, the film Rogue One and Katana style lightsabers, this is Akuto One…

This katana has the gloss black body that represents Vader’s armour and life support equipment. The blade is red to illustrate the strength and power the Empire and Vader had in the film (plus red is a Sith colour!). Whilst taking the pictures to post in the gallery I noticed that the in-built “camera” of the virtual builder focused in on certain pieces of the saber depending on which piece is highlighted. I also noticed that certain angles showed that the hilt was hollow (the builder only designs the hilt and not the electronic parts inside). This meant you could look inside through the open end of the pommel so I found a way of blocking that hole up with a blade plug. This isn’t the normal configuration and isn’t normally possible with the parts available without modifications being made. Using a blade plug in the pommel does, however, give it a distinct look! The name of the design is Akuto One or when translated, Rogue One!
I hope you enjoyed this design, another little twist on the traditional Katana, and who knows I may even be able to persuade some of the doubters that lightsaber katana swords can be part of the Star Wars Universe with this hilt. I also hope you will return to see more new designs in upcoming posts. Thanks again for visiting it means a lot to me and I have discovered people are now linking to FTSabersite from Social Media so thank you for that! Till next time.
Hello Everybody, apologies for my late posting but I was recalled to my local medical facilities to have some test results rechecked (the doctors couldn’t believe how powerful I was 😀 ). It does mean I am slightly behind schedule but fear not I have my third Katana design to finish my collection. I may work on a few other variations in future as I have developed an interest in the naming conventions for some of the genuine Japanese Katana hilts and want to study them more in depth. But for now here is the third design, this is Ume No Hana….Plum Blossom…

Here I tried to return to a traditional look (still no Ito wrap, I know, sorry 😦 ). However I think the silver and black provides a nice contrast and sets off the blade. There has been quite a bit of debate on the forum belonging to the company that has just released a “Tournament Ready” Katana style hilt and there was discussion as to whether Katana were really suitable for the Galaxy Far, Far Away but I think they work ok. If you look at Darth Vader’s armour it is reminiscent of traditional Japanese Samurai armour and their flared helmets. The style of sword combat that lightsaber duels were based on for the original trilogy of films was Kendo, so Katana type hilts shouldn’t seem so far fetched.
Anyhow, I am an equal opportunity type designer and I try to appreciate inspirations from all walks of life (and from other planets, races and species!) and will do my best to design a wide range of hilts. At the last count I think I had around 300 so I should still have a few more to display here. I hope you enjoy them and will return to see more in my upcoming posts Thanks for visiting and giving your support. Till next time.
Hello Everybody, Wow I must have the ability to see Force Premonitions! I say this as Saberforge has just announced a set of three Katana style sabers that they hope people will use in tournaments here on Earth. The new sabers were displayed on their site about 36 hrs ago. Well I think I beat them to the punch when I posted my first design Cherry Blossom Katana Lightsaber, though they are different. So, this is my second Katana styled hilt and following on from the theme of DeathTroopers yesterday, this one is similarly deathly! As the title says this is Sasayaki Shi – Whispered Death…
Sasayaki Shi Emitter
Sasayaki Shi Emitter 2
Sasayaki Shi Switch

Again this saber design is missing the traditional Ito wrapping on the hilt handles as the builder doesn’t offer that option but I still like how this turned out. The emitter has the Jedi symbol though this weapon may belong to a Force user who flirts between the light and dark. The design has three main parts, one emitter and two hand grips in gloss black. The parts are connected with an aluminium coloured coupler and switch section which give the hilt it’s little bit of contrast. Now this Katana (and my other two designs) can be shortened by removing one of the hand grips. This was part of my original idea for them so they could be concealed or used in confined spaces (useful for an assassin!). The blade has an amber colour signifying the owner is neither Jedi or Sith.
I hope you like Sasayaki Shi, and as a surprise I may have a fourth design to add to the Katana stable from a Guest Designer, I just have to get his permission to use it here. That shouldn’t be a problem as he is a friend of mine and FTSabersite. And to you my friends, I am afraid that the time has come where I have to bring proceedings to an end. Thank you for your continued support and taking the time to visit, please call in again for more designs in my upcoming posts. And if you like what you see here remember to tell your friends. Till next time.
Hello Everybody, I have a new saber for the newest rank of StormTrooper, the DeathTrooper. DeathTroopers accompanied Director Krennic when he travels to the planet of Lah’mu to persuade Galen Erso to help the Empire by working on the Death Star weapons systems. They communicate using a squeaky, buzzing, clicking type of language, probably to help them understand each other without their opponents knowing their intentions. They seem to only carry what they need to accomplish their mission and wear glossy black body armour and elongated masked helmets. This look makes them appear like shadowy apparitions, they are the Elite Shadow…

The emitter has a similar elongated look as the helmets the DeathTroopers wear but is also enhanced by an evil red glow from the two windows (and the blade itself extending from the forked opening). The switch is functional and looks like the armour casing of the arms, legs and body. The grip is the diamond cut military style handle I used for the Phasma-FTE Lightsaber but this time the hilt is coated in a tactical black finish. The pommel is a low profile style, nothing too busy, business like.
This is the DeathTrooper and as you can see they have a long rifle type weapon and just for fun I decided to try and replicate that weapon in the builder! So here is a little bonus gallery for the rifle..
As a disclaimer there are some parts used in positions that would require modification so the rifle isn’t really a proper design, I just thought I’d share it with you all!
Well this just about brings me to the end of this post, I think the saber looks ok, I’m not 100% certain about the “Rifle” as the builder isn’t really designed to build guns. I do try to push the boundaries however.
I’d like to thank you for your visit today and for supporting FTSabersite and please come back for future posts, I still have the two remaining Katana style sabers and some more great designs from my Guest Designer friends! Till next time.
Hello Everybody, today I return to the Galaxy far away and the film Rogue One. I have designed sabers for Chirrut Imwe, Baze Malbus, Grand Moff Tarkin and even K-2S0, but today I complete a connection between Father and Daughter. The daughter is Jyn Erso the heroine of the Rogue One team of Rebels and her father is Galen Erso, who bravely made a difficult decision to send Jyn to safety and may have provided the spark of “Hope” the Rebellion needs against the Death Star. Despite being separated Galen’s love for his daughter always glimmered, a twinkle at the back of his mind like a sprinkling of ….Stardust….

This saber has a slight Imperial feel to it and looks similarly elegant, like my Grand Moff Tarkin design. The hilt has an Imperial grey leather grip and the emitter is a basic standard style in keeping with military issue parts. However this saber does have some sentimental touches to it. The first is the three silver rings around the saber between the pommel and grip. These represent Galen’s family…himself, his wife Lyra and his daughter, Jyn. The second is the FTE (For The Ersoes) pommel that shines out as a reminder to him to stay strong during the difficult times and indicates the “Hope” he offers to the Rebellion. It is also reminds him of his daughter as it appears to contain real Stardust.
Galen Erso was a talented scientist and designer and I hope that I have created something he may have approved of. I also hope you liked this saber. I will have more designs coming up in future posts including the other Katana styled creations I introduced yesterday. But for now I wish to say thank you for your support and taking time to check out this saber. Till next time.
Hello Everybody, I hope my little attempt at Japanese worked and I haven’t offended anyone if I got it wrong (I used Google Translate). But this intro is a bit of a hint to the inspiration for my next design. I will say I am slightly worried about this lightsaber as it developed from the Cherrycola22 Lightsaber – For Kiki I posted. In the comments on that post Abby and Kiki were talking about the possibility of having “accidents” with their sabers. Well I hope I managed to instil the importance of responsibility while using these lightsabers as this new design is even more potent.
Yes, this design is based on a Japanese Katana sword and uses the same colour scheme as Kiki’s saber. I don’t make many Katana style designs but I now have three that have sprung to life. This is the first of those three and I call it…桜の花 Sakura no hana…Cherry Blossom…

The katana parts in the virtual builder don’t have the famous woven grips (called Ito wrapping) but are available. I used the emitter part with a hand guard (called a Tsuba) which is decorated with a Jedi symbol. The rest of the saber echoes Kiki’s with two Cherry Red leather wrapped bodies and silver accents on the switch and pommel. The blade this time represents the beautiful shades of pink that Cherry Blossom is famous for.
I am actually quite pleased how this design turned out. And it developed after I had created Kiki’s saber and visited her site (link HERE). Kiki welcomes all her viewers with the Japanese word Kon’nichiwa, and that coupled with the Cherry theme triggered the idea of a Japanese themed Katana named Cherry Blossom.
I hope I didn’t offend anyone and that you enjoyed this design, I enjoyed creating it as it took me out of my comfort zone, by doing something different. Thank you for visiting and please come back for more new designs in future posts. Till next time.
Hello Everybody, well after the Blogger Award business yesterday I return to my scheduled posts! I’d like to thank Abby for the nomination, it’s nice to know I am making a difference somewhere in the galaxy, however small! Regarding thanks, I have a new design for a friend of Abby’s who has commented on FTSabersite before. This person is called Kiki, and also blogs about the adventures of her “family” of dolls, like Abby does. I named Kiki as a nominee in my post yesterday but I discovered that she may have been nominated for the same award 15 times already! Upon this discovery I posted a comment on her site Kiki – Through The Looking Glass but told her she didn’t have to go through the process of being chosen for my benefit.
As a congratulation for your popularity and efforts, Kiki, I have come up with this design for you. Sorry it took so long for me to get round to it, but here is Cherrycola22 Lightsaber…
Cherrycola22 Emitter 2

This saber is, I think a nice looking saber for a beginner (or at least I think Kiki is a beginner!). The saber has a Cherry Red leather grip on a black body to make it stand out or POP! The black also helps to contrast the silver accents on the switch and pommel. The pommel from certain angles looks like a pop/soda bottle screw top cap. At the business end of the saber, the blade is a shade of pink, which reminds me of the frothy bubbles on the top of a glass of the Cherry flavoured drink! (Just so folks don’t think I’m endorsing a particular company, other brands are available! 😀 ).
I hope Kiki likes her new saber, now she and Abby can have intergalactic adventures together with “For Tyeth Edition” lightsabers to protect themselves with! I wasn’t sure what to call your saber so if you come up with a better name Kiki, let me know and I can update it! Also you can check out Kiki’s site by clicking the link above ^^ or the one here: Kiki – Through The Looking Glass.
So the glass of Cherrycola is nearly empty as is the glass of time! I have to bring this post to an end but as always I’d like to thank all of you for taking time to check out my site, leaving comments and supporting FTSabersite. It means a lot to me and I hope you will return for more designs in future posts. Till next time.
WOW! Hello Everybody, sorry to make you jump, but for a second time in five months I have been nominated for a blogging award. I have been nominated by the same person who honoured me with my last nomination. The young lady by the name of Abby. You may remember her as the Fangirl, for whom I designed a saber after posting a comment on one of her blogs, ablogofafangirlslife.wordpress.com. Within five minutes of submitting my comment about Rogue One, Abby had replied, liked my comment and visited FTSabersite…and posted a comment here! It was this enthusiasm that prompted me to design her a saber. I’m not sure if she wants another saber or just likes watching me work on Nomination Posts!
Well, to fulfil the rules of the award there are a few things I need to do!
THE RULES: courtesy of Julia (thejoysofjulia.wordpress.com) and now Abby!
Oh…and copy and paste.
•Thank that awesome nominator! And give a link to their blog(S)
•Write a post about this award
•Give a short bit about how/why your started your website
•Give two bits of advice for bloggers.
•Nominate 15 bloggers (Might be a bit short of these, I’m still beginning and need to read more!)
•Tell those 15 bloggers via comment! (I can manage this bit, for the few I nominees I have!)
