Commandolorian Lightsaber (A saber for the Super Commando Mandalorians)

Hello Everyone, In recent days there has been news of a new set of characters in the Star Wars cartoon, Rebels (season three). These new characters are called Super Commandos. Originally from the planet of Mandalore these soldiers were famous for being mercenaries and warmongering. Some were also well known as Bounty Hunters, remember Jango and Boba Fett, the famous father and son team that flew Slave One? Yes they were Mandolorian and during the time of the Galactic Empire, a group of these mercenaries pledged allegiance to the Empire and formed a squad of Super Commandos. They had all the cunning and technology of the Mandalore mercenaries and the support and supplies from the Empire. They were a force to be reckoned with and speaking of forces some were also Force-sensitive and able to use lightsabers! So what would their sabers look like? Here is my interpretation of that weapon, this is Commandolorian…

The saber has a fierce appearance starting with the forked emitter which represents the Mandolorian bisected helmet, smeared in grime and having a Sith/Empire red blade. You may recognise the body of the hilt looks similar to the Phasma/Stormtrooper hilts I showcased a few posts back. This shows the support and supply of armament from the Empire. The Empire and Mandolorian technology combining to create Lightsabers. The saber has an FTE pommel but this time there is no end cap, I did this to simulate the exhaust nozzle of the Mandolorian rocket pack the commandos wear. This backpack rocket also has a missile launcher built in…cool! The mercenaries were first “employed” by Darth Maul the Sith apprentice of Darth Sidious – The Emperor. This explains the horns and colours worn by the Super Commando in the gallery above. However after Maul’s supposed demise on Naboo, the Mando Super Commandos were officially formed as part of the Empire’s forces. The horns disappeared and a more formal, regimented colour coded uniform became the norm but they still retained the backpack, gadgets and their fearsome reputation. Hopefully some of them will also have one of my sabers!

This concludes the introduction to the Super Commandos and my saber Commandolorian. Thank you for looking in and I hope you will all return to see future designs. I will also be posting more from my friends in the Guest Designer section. Till next time.
